They'd lose a LOT more than a third if they invaded Finland. Like, this war has basically turned the russian army into a complete joke instead of the fearsome juggernaut everybody always considered it beforehand. Finland is far better equipped and whatnot than Ukraine was, so any attack on it would be borderline suicidal. And that's assuming it happens before Finland even becomes a formal NATO member. If it happens post-NATO, well....I don't think I really need to explain how bad that would be.

I think it's far more likely the start deploying Tactical Nukes in their backyard of Ukraine than it is they invade a second, more heavily fortified, country. And I don't think that's very likely.

pre-2014, sure, but all we have now that stands out is a large amount of (very old) field artillery. our total population is around 5.5m and our full reserve capacity is only 900 000, whereas ukraine's population is like 44million

all of that, coupled with fact that finland has known peace for an extremely long time (which has made the populace soft) would lead to us getting one-sidedly crushed if russia so much as blinked at us

Kaiganeer is such faithless doomer. Ukraine was thought to captilute in a few days. Their equipment is worse than Finland's, too. But three months later and they're more determined than ever, and they're receiving increasingly more powerful hardware by the day.

Nevertheless, after Russia is done with Ukraine, I doubt they will have much of an army to launch any new offensives with.
Do bear in mind that Ukraine's territory is much harder to defend than Finland's. Ukraine is open steppe with few forests, lakes and rivers; Finland is swampy, forested, and littered with lakes. There will be no shortage of locations from where from to set up ambushes.

No doubt a Russian invasion would cross the east border and head toward Helsinki. That's a distance of circa 100 miles. Russia notably failed to take Kyiv, and most recently, has failed to take Kharkiv. Russia couldn't take Kharkiv, a city that's less than 30 miles from its border! And this "imposing" army is to drive three times that distance, and expect not to be countered, not to be ambushed, and not have their logistics collapse? Don't make me laugh.

What a marvellous small dick energy move.
Does it truly matter if the nuclear missiles are at the border or not? Russia took them from a base maybe a few hundred miles away at best anyhow. So what's the difference? A nuke hits Finland in 2 minutes instead of 5?
"Oh, I have a gun trained on you and I'm 15 feet from you, but if I make that a mere 12 feet, I'm like a million times more dangerous!"
