I was thinking of upgrading my PC, but I don't really know what I'm doing. Despite that, I went ahead and bought myself a brand new graphics card. I have no idea if my PC could run it, though.

I tried to find this out before posting, just in case I was asked. And this is the best info I could come up with.

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 4095MB
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.8GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77X-D3H
RAM: 8192MB
PSU: ????

I wanted to try and get something I can run current games at max settings and mods with, and primarily something that can do VR stuff.

And copying and pasting what I got... GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING OC Video Card, GV-R69XTGAMING OC-16GD. (I'm gonna assume that everything after "XT" is irrelevent and doesn't need to be added...)

My current PC was the first actual "build" that I bought parts for 10 years ago, having someone else put it together for me. I did it since I heard you can save a lot of money this way and get something more powerful.

You're likely going to need a new PSU. The 6900XT needs three 8-pin pci power connectors, and Gigabyte recommends an 850W rating. I'm guessing your 10yo psu doesn't have either of that.

If you can afford to, you should do a completely new build. Ivy Bridge CPUs are ancient and are gonna bottleneck your new graphics card.

This, honestly.

The new AMD ryzen processors are much better and lower priced compared to intel counter parts. But the PSU is you priority to upgrade to use the GPU.

Never skimp out on the PSU.

See, this is part of what's incredibly confusing about all of this. Ivy Bridge CPUs?

And I have no idea about graphics cards having specific PCI power connectors... or that they can conflict with PSUs. Do graphics cards need to be connected directly to the PSU or something? And do a lot of graphics cards have different power connectors?

Whats your budget if you were to build a new PC disregarding the GPU since you already have it?

I guess roughly $1000 or so. I was thinking if I HAD to buy a bunch of new parts for the GPU, I could do it slowly and save up for parts over a few months. But I was looking at sales on r/buildapcsales and seeing how even stuff like RAM can cost $200 on sale, so maybe $1000 would just barely be enough to scrape by to do a full build.

Here's a build with some budget room for if you want to upgrade or change certain parts:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VGbjnt

Most of these aren't on sale rn so it's a bit more expensive, but they do go on sale from time to time if you prefer to wait.
