When I worked for Carl's Jr., they had a very similar policy as well.

They would not be so bad if they had a real lunch break. 15 mins is just too short.

When I worked at Taco Bell in high school, they only gave me a 50% discount >_> What a rip!

I'd hate to live in a state where you may be allowed to take your breaks and lunch rather than it be required they are given to you by law.

The discount actually seems pretty great, but fuck that break policy.

That's very r/antiwork and all but if you've ever worked in a Subway you know that no one follows any rules whatsoever and does w/e the fuck they want whenever they want lol. That type of stuff is more of a guideline than anything else, long as the customers are taken care of no one really gives a shit. Hell, when I worked at Subway I used to just sit in the front and read or chop it up with people until an actual customer came in/walked up to the counter.

I mean, things may have changed but I don't think Subway of all companies is really afforded the luxury of being picky now of all times.

When I worked for Subway I was allowed to make literally anything I wanted and eat it in the back as long as customers were being served.

I worked over nightshift so there weren't many customers. And I definitely took smoke breaks. What happened?

I worked at Burger King over 20 years ago. Our employee discount was 50% and we could only use it on break or right after our shift was over.

The law usually says any break under 20min has to be paid and 30 minutes and up can be unpaid

I'd assume the 99% discount is to discourage just eating food off the line as if it's all free

That sounds like bs. almost ALL my friends worked at BK, and this was about 15-20 years ago, and I would legit see them making quadruple whoppers w 4 slices of cheese and crap and the manager did not give a crap.

I know a guy that would bring us a couple foot long subs of our choice for free. Every couple of weeks. Didn't pay for any of it.

I got 30 minutes. I think my shifts were 6 hours?

But management decided when you would get a break >_> So sometimes I would literally get a break an hour into my shift, which sucked

Yeah the reality is it's always down to the management to the store to see if any of rules or guidelines gets enforced. When I first worked at Carl's Jr. no one really followed any guidelines and it was all about getting the food out fast to the customer. I would be having guys on phones all day, but once someone made an order they would drop it and make the food fast because we would get timed on it. It was 2 months before I quit, we got a new assistant manager that heavily enforced all the rules and while made our restaurant more efficient, also made working conditions more rough. I was lucky I found a job at UPS not too long after it.

Don't really care about the food discount cuz their food sucks, but the cig thing would piss me off. I don't take multiple cig breaks, but when I do get a break you should fuck off and mind your own business.

When I first started there the managers didn't care if you ate free food. Eventually someone from the franchisee put up a memo in the office threatening job loss if we kept doing that. We also got a new store manager that was strict and did everything by the book.

As always it comes down to your manager. I've never worked fast food but everyone I know who has pretty much told me it came down to who ran the store. If you are working a crap job with a crap manager who's anal about every detail and policy you're gonna have a crap time.
