You go on vacation with two friends who are married. How do you split the cost of the room with them?

50/50 or everyone pays a third?

If for whatever reason there are like 3 rooms and 3 beds and they are using 2 of those, then you should only pay 1/3.

So in your case with 2 rooms, 50/50 split wouldnt be unreasonable.

I've asked this scenario to a lot of people and everyone has a different response. But as I have asked,why does a married couple become one person in this scenario and thus pay less than the individual?

Also nuances here. Are you more well off? Do both of them work? How much do you like these people, who's idea was the room etc, are you sharing a car as well and whose car is it and who pays for gas etc

If I was to stay with a single friend, you could either share a bed or get separate beds. But you would still probably split the room cost either way, no?

1/3 or maybe 40% from me if I get my own bed, they'll still use up more of the room with their stuff and take up the shower and bathroom and they gotta pay for that.

Fuck that. If its an AirBnB chances are there is only one master bedroom. Which would logically go to the married couple. The two of them should pay more overall just for that.

Split per the bed/bedroom usage. If couple are sharing one bed/room and the single person has a bed/room, then the split is 50/50.

If the couple has a bedroom and the single person is sleeping on a couch, then by third sounds generous by the single person.

I like to go for a "couples count as 1.5 people" rule for this sort of situation. So, I pay 40%, they pay 60%. Though I should note it's usually been more in the context of roommates than hotels for me (where it's a case of "they only use one bedroom, but they use the rest of the house + the utilities more than just one person").
