So glad I grew out of that phase when I was like 14-15.

I agree, just like always there's tons of shit coming out every year with a few nuggets of gold hidden in that mountain of feces. You can go back to any era and find the same thing just with a slightly different consistency (sometimes that mountain is more of a swamp, like when dubstep started getting popular for instance)

Mmm, no tiktok has all kinds of videos. Not sure where you're getting your info on tiktok content. It was for the younger demo at first, like every social media app. now everyone is on it making content for every category.

literally more people are using it than IG, Twitter or Youtube and it has the best algorithim for showing you stuff you're interested in.

I'm 37, and TikTok is really entertaining. The only reason I don't go on it is it seems really addictive, and I don't need another social media timesuck.

The common generalization from people who don't use it is it's nothing but zoomer pranks and dance crazes, but it has such a massive userbase with broad special interests that there is no consise demographic

Only time I ever checked it out it seemed to be mostly kids memeing, doing lewd dances, cringe lip sync shit, etc... then I found a literal cult called "The Garden"...so, that's pretty much my reasoning lol, I am admittedly being biased here but if within an hour I accidentally find a cult there's something wrong

I think it's OK to acknowledge various types of media and genres have peaks and valleys. it can change relatively fast, too. there can be a three year period where things tank relative to the surrounding years, it happens at some point almost every decade.

for example, executives shuffling around/having disagreements can mean something like cartoon network or Nintendo has a five year down period.

things are decent at the moment but the world is damn weird

Naw, sometimes it's just you. People are really unwilling to acknowledge that sometimes you just out-grow shit you use to like or maybe your taste just changes. Everyone wanna believe things around them changes and not themselves.

I have some thoughts about this that I don't really have time to elaborate on right now. but there are two ways of thinking about it.

Most things in my niche interests are getting worse, though. Fighting games, in particular, are suffering from the drive to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Fighting games didn't get big on that, and they won't thrive from that.

There's outliers like The Pharcyde, Bone Thugs and Mos Def. They had incredible and ahead of their time flows and styles. The Pharcyde and Bone Thugs were doing what rappers do today in the 90s. But yeah, I mostly listen to modern stuff.

People who think this way are old and set in their ways refusing to adapt or accept that change happens and things would be boring if they stayed the same.

Look at how gaming has changed yet it still loves to do throw backs and retro games since the audience is there.

If you hate everything modern then do something about it, create something that is based on old tech or the old days, write a book, but do something besides cry about it.

People who think this way are just blinded by nostalgia mostly.

The quality of a given thing will vary over time, but what you remember from the past tends to be the good that stuck with you only. There is plenty of garbage out there that you'll never think about again.

Plenty of great stuff coming out every year in all artistic mediums. Amazing video games, fantastic music, television breaking away from having to be driven by public broadcasting networks had given shows much more freedom to do what they want, movies I can't comment on because I generally don't watch or care for them in general.

I look back on the 90s/early 00s fondly in some aspects, but imagine thinking that what you listened to then is the pinnacle of everything ever. It's fucking embarrassing. It's literally no different than the gen x types still thinking hair metal is the greatest thing ever.

Give indie devs a chance, listen to some small label musicians work. Put some fucking effort into your entertainment and you'll be rewarded. There is *literally* something for everyone in this year of Our Lady 2022.

I wouldn't say stolen, that's a really weird way to look at it, it's just artistic influence. You see a freaky Francis Bacon painting, you're so thoroughly traumatized you make Jacob's Ladder. Jacob's Ladder made you afraid of Subways, then you make Silent Hill 3 with the most fucked up Subway imaginable.

I agree with the sentiment that producers on the smaller side of most domains are where the quality has shifted in the past decade or so. Smaller video game developers are now the innovators of gameplay where as industry titans release games that have buckled under the weight of their own development cycle. Indie musicians can reach their audience easier and make a modest living doing what they and their niche love. Plus like many have said in this topic, porn is in an era of quality and quantity as individuals are able to market themselves easily while avoiding much of the predation that was still ubiquitous 10-15 years ago.
