Point Blank Law and Order and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are two of my favorite shows. So I am not saying that these shows are not fun to watch. But overall they do a number of things.

1. One of the first things that they do, is paint police has heroes. Over and over cops tell us that they just want to get home to their families. So we need to treat them just like that. It is a job and nothing more.
2. The next ting we see is that , they act like bad cops are rare and when they are found out they are dealt with. And many times IAB are the bad guys. From how many times we see police cover of each other this isn't the case.
3. When cops breaks the rules, it is for a good reason, and just this once. Blue Bloods is one of the worst at this. It is like as if I am watching gone with the Wind cop edition, an SVU. They are a lot worse then the normal version. And think about the cases that SVU deals with. So yeah they have go get the rapist. So breaking a few more rules isn't that bad... right.
4. Even the Shield a cop show where the express purpose of the cops were that they were bad guys. They always colored many of their actions in a way you will feel sorry for them. Oh he is a crime boss, but he needs that money for his special needs kid.

So let's take one of my favorites. Brooklyn Nine-Nine There is an episode that many people say is one of the best. The Box. When Jake and Holt try to out wit this guy for the whole show. But it starts off with Jake arresting him with no evidence. This is the first time on that show I was pulling for that bad guy.

I dont think B99 should be taken as anything near an example of how police are or should be. Just leave it at entertainment.

Except The Wire.

There's a scene in The Wire where a suspect smacks the hotheaded cop and he starts beating the shit out of the suspect. The calm, respectable lady cop runs over and pulls him off of the guy...and then she starts beating the shit out of him too. Just to give you an idea of what it's like.

its also just very good at showing where the system breaks down because of where the incentives are.

It's kind of weird how actual police officers have said that Reno 911! is pretty much the most accurate police show.

Huh? Theyre TV shows, which make them fake. Dont take everything so seriously.

I also recommend The Wire. It shows how police really are, for the most part.

And these TV shows have been basically propaganda, even if not intentional, used to help make more people blindly love, respect, and obey cops.

He was also lacking reasonable parenting skills, which was very evident during the many times his kids were involved with the cases he was working on.

I was thinking the same thing when he mentioned that he liked Brooklyn Nine Nine. It tried to show that cops make mistakes and arent perfect at all

Oxymoron.

Yeah, the amount of times internal affairs is shown as the bad guys is pretty absurd. Especially, the considering the amount of times they're in the right.
