I've had century eggs and natto

I wouldn't eat the maggot cheese simply because it's actually dangerous to eat.

I can't stand seeing maggots move. I'd have to be on the brink of starvation to eat that shit

Casu martzu. Balut is a close second. None of the others seem especially bad.

And haggis is great. Like, it's not even an acquired taste, it's straight up delicious. It's just a big sausage.

I wouldnt eat any of that stuff. Give me a burger or a steak any day.

I've tried natto before

it doesn't even have a strong flavor, it just tastes like regular beans, but slimier

I dont think I could eat a balut without throwing up. Just the thought of it is fucking foul. Surstromming is a pretty close second, but I think if I avoided smelling it I could maybe get some down.

I'm completely fine eating Balut, Century Egg, Haggis, and Natto. Durian, can't get over the smell. Lutefisk, same.

I would be open to try Svio and Rocky Mountain Oysters.

I've had durian and rocky mountain oysters. I've been curious about trying casu marzu for years. Balut is the least appealing one to me on the list, by far. I don't think I would ever eat that.

Balut looks scarier and more disgusting than it actually tastes. The taste is pretty much like chicken broth.

I initially thought balut but upon reflection I decided its probably less a taste thing and more the texture/concept

None of these are technically delicacies. Bird nest soup would probably be considered one

The first two are the only ones that I wouldn't eat. Haggis sounds no worse than sausage when it comes down to it.

Casu marzu

Durian is literally one of my faves. It's like a stinky garbage can full of strong sharp cheese and mangoes and it basically melts when you cook it. It has such a complex taste it's easy to build around or just use as a background for other strong flavors, and the taste isn't even half as strong as the smell: it blends nice.

Most of the others are fermented and/or preserved foods that hail from a time before modern refrigeration. They're varying degrees of unpleasant but likely inoffensive, or, at least, safe to eat. That said, the only unappetizing part of Svi is probably that you're staring at a mostly complete head. The meat probably tastes exactly like mutton, because that's what it is. The pic you shared of Rocky Mountain Oysters makes them look fucking delicious.

I draw the line at balut: the idea of eating an embryonic bird is stomach churning, but less than consuming cheese that contains live maggots.

Durian I was revolted by the first time but Ive slowly built up a tolerance + admiration for its flavor by working my way up via durian flavored things (wafers/candies/milkshakes). Lutefisk I had a hard time getting past the smell - dont remember the taste being really bad or good but after immediately getting a bone in my first bite I decided that was enough to call it quits.

No experience with the rest.

Haggis is ahead of Surstromming now??? Even knowing the basics of it Im really curious why its so taboo, have wanted to try it since seeing that one episode of Johnny Bravo when I was 6-7

I always think of the Highlander scene when Haggis is mentioned.

The maggot cheese would probably make me throw up just looking at it. The only two I would even consider trying without being paid a lot of money or threatened with torture would be Durian and Natto

Durian and jackfruit are easy to get in the Korean marts around here, and I've come to appreciate them. Not on my fridge, never again, but I won't turn them down if offered. I find all the best things in life are challenging at first.

Casu Martzu seems like the only one with outright health concerns, so I'd probably avoid that.

I don't see the shark soaked in urine from Iceland up there, that's the one I would be most opposed to
