I was just casually using it. You looked too deep into it lol. I just think it's funny how people treated him like more than human. It's just the bubble Im in. People who blindly follow him stick out more and the people I pay attention that don't blindly follow him have more reasonable and open for debate theories. This is where you lose me though. I don't associate with the right or COVID IS FAKE or NEVER-MASKER NEVER VAXXER or anything like that. I am and have always been compliant with any orders or mandates that have been in effect. I'm completely pro vaccine and pro-masking. Wouldn't take it away from anyone and never have even remotely implied that I would. Unfortunately, that's just US politics in a nutshell though; you're either with us or against us. No middle ground. No exception.

But the reason you and others are so quick to peg me into that demographic (refusing lockdowns, vaccines, and masks) is because you're taking what I'm saying in today's context and retrofitting it to how things actually were when they were at their worst like 1-1.5 years ago.

Today's covid context - although the numbers are pretty stagnant, we now know a hell of a lot more. Vaccines and boosters are readily available. We have more at-home treatment. Better testing. Better access. And much milder cases along with a hospitalization/death rate that is nowhere near what it was in the past in comparison to the case rates. As a result, I am comfortable operating under the guidance implemented by my local jurisdiction along with any federal mandates or lack thereof.

1-1.5 years ago - Yes I wore a mask. I was concerned. I didn't know much. And neither did anybody else. Things were mutating, things were scary. And the hospitalization/death rates were exponentially higher than they are today. As a result, I operated under the guidance implemented by my local jurisdiction along with any federal mandates.

You see my point, yes? Just because I am comfortable not wearing a mask today, doesn't mean you automatically get to shoehorn me into some lunatic conspiracy theorist group and act like I've been there since covid began. I hope you can understand the difference. Our operating procedures can change as we learn more and more about where things currently are today.

I do admit I spitballed "1-1.5 years" because I don't obsessively keep track of each day's respective cases. But my point is, objectively, we are better off now than we were when things were worse. And we objectively know far more about treatment and prevention.

Additionally, I still fail to understand why, if things are still so freaking bad, the administration isn't doing anything? You think they don't have experts just as qualified as the twitter doctors you guys like to post?

^ Is that not to be expected? We know vaccines efficacy and natural immunity wane over time. We also know that as the rate of vaccinated people increased, the proportion of those who died with vaccinated status would naturally increase as well.

Also lol at pinning it all on Trumpers when the literal white house is left-run and could easily re-establish an airline mask mandate and many other options. Easier to finger-point to the boogieman enemy instead of the actual issue; lest we forget, the more us regular folk fight amongst over ourselves over a phantom left vs. right system, the more the billionaires and politicians continue to operate as unchecked as they always have.

Slow to react to a global pandemic? Not only is the mandate totally replaceable with another executive order, the thing was overturned entirely based on one word. If this administration is so slow to react that they can't figure out a synonym to crank out another executive order, how can you have faith in them at all?

Bigger question; even though they're appealing the decision by that judge, why didn't they include a stay with their appeal? That would've kept the mandate in place while the appeal worked its way through the process.

Two weeks ago, the CDC said "at this time an order requiring masking in the indoor transportation corridor remains necessary for the public health." How is that alone not grounds for this administration to create a similar executive order to the original one that mandated masks on airlines?

Airline/public travel mask mandate would've ended today, May 3rd. Crazy how long it's been. My next flight is in three days, it's going to feel so weird walking in an airport and being on a plane without one.

It was due anyways. Think about it, we've been walking around malls and shopping centers without masks for months (or even over a year in some states), and airports are basically malls. We go to clubs, bars, and restaurants without masks, and airplanes are basically clubs with better air circulation. So these last several times I've flown, it's been the only place where a mask was still required, and it just felt odd because it was like I was walking through a mall to go to a club except I needed a mask this time.

Just strange is all.

To say COVID is over and we shouldn't be taking all the precautions we can now, while the spread is low, in order to prevent another spike is frankly one of the stupidest things you can possibly say about COVID. It's literally what the people who were chugging horse paste will recommend. It's literally what the alt-right grift machine is pushing. They want to continue the pandemic so they can continue their grift.

You've literally fallen for the propaganda from the right wing, and more and more people are falling for it every day because the people who were fighting it have frankly gotten tired of fighting back against the misinformation, the ignorance, and the selfishness.

I live in a staunchly blue region. The government dropped the mask mandate, most restaurants dropped mask requirements, and we just had Carnival. A friend of mine came down here and remarked the pandemic is over and got annoyed that he wasn't allowed in one lone restaurant that still required masks. Also he got annoyed with me double masking. Tourists come down here vaccinated and double/triple/whatever boosted and think they're the hot shit and generally don't wear their masks.

Anecdotally speaking, it seems most people regardless of their stance on politics don't care about the pandemic anymore.

Yup. This is the core point I'm trying to help people realize without outright spelling it to them. As much as people want to yell about "bOtH sIdEs IsN't A vAlId PoInT" or whatever, it's totally valid here. And this includes those in office as well. I mean, do people realistically think Biden and his administration couldn't draw up a new airline mask mandate executive order and just slightly reword it? Hell it was set to expire today anyways. They easily could've created a new one by now. But even they're done with it.
