We didnt hate gay people, but calling a straight friend gay was meant as an insult or a put down, with an implication that the term gay means lesser or inferior or that something is wrong with it. Thats the point. Spider-Mans insult to Bonesaw is to make Bonesaw embarrassed by implying hes less than if he has a husband. Whether because its because hes less masculine or because hes gay is irrelevant, its a put down. That wouldnt be written today. Im not mad about it being edited.
