Definitely have something to occupy you. When I work night shift, I play games on my phone or switch a lot to keep me up. Once in a while I study / read, but I feel like it makes me even more tired >_>

So what do you do TC? Picker, Stocker, Replinisher, Driver or Shipping? Either way bring water, wear comfortable clothing, bring comfortable shoes, those hard floors are murder on your legs and feet and above all else, adjust your sleep routine. Warehouse working is long, hard and tedious

As others have said, adjust your sleep schedule asap...

Second I'd say, if you can use headphones, have podcasts and Playlist saved to occupy your mind a bit while you work... In the 10 years I've worked graveyard, I've caught up on so many podcasts and it's a nice change from just music...

Also stretch... Especially if you're mostly stationary during your shift...

Amazon?

Worked the same shift for one of their warehouses once. I just powered through the first night and crashed as soon as I got home. Definitely started to suck ass around 2AM though lol. I'd say I was fully adjusted after about a week.

That said, if it is amazon, fuck them and find a better job/better hours when you have any spare time. They're really not worth the straing they're going to put on you. <_<

Oof @ those hours
it's an average 10 hour shift for most warehouse places mine is 6:45am to 4:45pm with mandatory overtime which at it's longest could last to 5 or 6pm

keep some type of energy boost in reserve

DONT use energy drinks like Red Bull or cheapy copycats, they kill your kidneys in the longrun and set you up for diapers after 60

modern employers typically dont give a fuck that your kidney stones are shredding your insides, call out too often and youre gone

This. Also don't fall for that teamwork and family bullshit they feed you, you, like everyone else there are there because you need the money. You can find friends there if you wish but one thing is for certain. You all share the same goal in getting the fuck out of there early or on time. Nobody wants to be there after their normal hours are up.

Another thing, Productivity rate is king, so even if you feel like shit you better keep up your pace because productivity rate is calculated every single day and every single week and they expect 100 percent or above the lowest they accept is 98 percent. Personally I don't give a fuck anymore about productivity rate, i know my limits now and on certain floors my rate goes to shit because I legit can't handle the stuff down there as easily as I do others.

Blackout curtains or blindfold. I use a bandanna tied up like a headband. Earplugs and a fan to drown out noise. In my expierence nobody respects you work nights and won't quiet down.

Oh, if you're gonna be a picker you'll probably either be moving with a tote line and get 20 minute breaks twice every 3 hours and one 15 minute break in the last leg. I'll tell you now, if they try to make you an inductor. Come up with a reason why you can't do it. The Inductors are not only responsible for making the cluster totes to put on the line they're still expected to pick and meet rate which as I mentioned before expectation is 100 percent or above with the lowest 98 percent. It's doable but it's basically working even harder than those who are just picking because you constantly have to run back and forth and sometimes they make you induct two lanes at once so you could be inducting lane 8 and lane 7 at the same time and still have to go and pick as well to get your rate in and no, the totes you create do not count towards your productivity rate, it's all calculated by product picks.

Hold on, I'll get my phone and show you what you might expect form picking BRB

All of this is true. The part that no one respects that you work overnights is so true.
You'll hear shit like 'You get the whole to yourself' ~No you don't.
Eventually, you will fall into a second or third-rate person in most people's eyes.

It can also take years to get your sleep schedule back to normal.

I worked nights for almost a decade.
It has its perks, but it can also fuck you up.

I am naturally a night person. But hell my own job doesn't respect I'm night shift. Admin will call my ass at like noon over stuff. Like call me as soon as you get in and settled or right before you leave. There's There's chance I'm awake then. Even if not you not waking me up midway through my sleep.

Also to add to my earplugs suggestion. If you do that make sure you got a loud enough alarm. Until my body got used to waking up at that specific time my phone wasn't cutting it.

Get on some sort of real sleep schedule. When I was on it, I preferred to wake up right before I had to get ready for work. Others like to sleep as soon as they go home.

All of the advice about black out curtains and stuff is spot on. It's hard sleeping during the day because there's a lot more noise. It's hotter in the summer and colder in the winter too. With a physical job it takes a bit to wind down too, so that's another issue. Odds are youll be sleep deprived and crash on your off days. I managed to maintain friendships but it's a lot more difficult. It's a rough life

Or you can be like a CO worker of mine. Hire on at a prison that's short staffed and sleep at work. He literally admitted to me he stays up all day playing video games comes to work and sleeps. He gets in trouble quite a bit but he shows up for work so they won't fire him. Hell he used to only take 2 days off a month. He'd show up even when not scheduled

not serious advice. Fucker is lucky nobody has got hurt or died on his watch.
