The fascination with Lego video games is the strangest fascination to me ever in human kind history I kid you not. And I've never heard of anything Lego-related talked about in the gaming community... or on gaming websites. Yet Lego video games still sell a bomb everytime. So is this some kinda niche community out there? And why video games of all things?

The benefit of Lego is in the physical toys and its functionality. I never saw what appeal there could be in a Lego video game of all things, esp. stuff like Lego DC and Marvel. Like... why not just make a DC and Marvel video game without the Lego blockiness aspect??

Majority has to be a younger audience.
Cynical gut feeling says the Funko pop/MCU crowd is all over them too.

Like god, why would you wanna play Harry Potter made out of legos instead of... an actual Harry Potter game? This strange fascination is more mysterious than the Bermuda triangle

Because the Lego games are often more fun than actual games.

They're fun platformers, they adapt mass-appeal and family friendly franchises, the Lego stuff genuinely adds a nice stylistic and comedic element that enhances the game, and they're usually dirt cheap within a month or two of launch.

It's not hard to see why they are popular.

Me

Because the games are amazing, not too difficult, and they're solid games that scratch that adventure/collectible itch that early adventure games used to give me as a kid. Plus, the games are like playing in a giant interactive sandbox because the levels usually require you to go back and play them over again using characters with different abilities, so they encourage creativity and exploration.

That, and they're humurous as hell.

i played lego harry potter with my younger sister and it was pretty fun for a couple of hours. we only got up to book 2 though before the boredom struck lol.

I still prefer the ps2 harry potter chamber of secrets and the ps1 philosopher stone. I've never played any others except for goblin of fire for the PSP and I don't remember much about it now.

Basically this.

And theyre super easy to just pick up and play, so its the kind of game a kid can get a parent to play with them, or a gamer to get a non-gamer friend or S.O. to play.

How is it a niche community if the games sell like bomb?

Also were any of the Harry Potter film games even good? I wager Lego Harry Potter was the better packaged game. At least until Hogwarts Legacy, if that's even any good.

idk. they remind me of funko-pops in the sense that they're a decent and inoffensive gift for someone who's a fan of whatever series.
i've bought like 3 or 4 lego games for my nephew over the years and he really likes them. they aren't too complex in terms of gameplay, are whacky/fun without being over the top, and they offer tons to do.

Worlds kinda sucked, and Lego Friends was pretty damn bad. Movie 2 and the handful of GBA/DS games weren't exactly great (except Lego Battles - Lego Battles is awesome).

LEGO Batman 3 was awful and I personally found LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean pretty unenjoyable to play.

I'm currently playing the new LEGO Star Wars and the glitches requiring reboots are getting pretty numerous to the point of making the game overall bad as well.

The campaign in Batman 3 was good. The open world on the Mario Galaxy style planets that didn't unlock until after the story was fairly weak, though.

I don't remember specifically the campaign's details, but let's just say I didn't find it memorable. Unlike LEGO Batman 2's campaign, which is a significant part of why it's the best LEGO [Franchise] game ever.
