I don't really drink when I go out. It's a rare thing for me to do it.

When I tell people I don't drink they get all weird. So I have to order Arnold Palmers so they shut up about it since they think it's an alcoholic drink lol

You'd think they'd be happy to have a DD.

The most I get is "How do you have fun?," which is a silly question to me. But other than that, people aren't too weird when I tell them I don't drink.

Some folks are. Other folks get weird cause you not drinking is like threatening to their mental state. Like if everyone is drinking, that just means their drinking is totally fine and normal. But if there is someone who isn't, that opens up the possibility that they actually have a problem.

I don't drink. I don't even know why I don't; I just never got into it, and now it's just a thing I don't do simply because I never started in the first place. I don't have anything against alcohol; I just don't like it.

It's not really a big deal, though. Very rarely do I have people offer me a drink in such a way that I have to make it an issue. Usually I just say "no thanks" or if they ask what I want, I ask for a Coke Zero or a juice. I don't think I've ever been to any kind of event that had literally only alcohol.

It's one of those things that triggers guilt and forces someone to go on the defensive. Like one someone who says "fuck" every third word runs into someone who doesn't curse.

Like, no, I'm not trying to act like I'm better than you. We simply don't share the same habits. I have habits of my own.

Think they treat you weird then, try telling friends you drink with that you're not drinking anymore. They'll almost never be happy for you for trying to make a positive change in your life and instead badger for a reason why.

Drinking is normal and has been for literally all of human history. People drink socially and don't have a problem.

Its always people that I don't really know too lol. Like I'll go to a function and if my friends bring people along. They always start asking probing questions like I'm gonna give some crazy answer that isn't "I just don't really like drinking that much"

I used to order a beer just to have something in my hand so people don't ask and I'm not just awkwardly standing there. Now I don't even feel like doing that.

I've been to plenty of parties and gatherings over the years. Nobody gives a shit if someone isn't into drinking.

I have never once given a shit if someone didn't want to drink. If they wanna socialize they can, shit is weird with the pressuring.

Fun/happy drinks are awesome to be around because I feel like the funniest person on the planet when Im around them.

Like others in this topic, I don't like drinking and have no problem with people that do. Personally, I just don't like the taste of alcohol, so why drink something that I don't like?

My issue is that my job involves a lot of after-hours business functions to network and meet with potential clients. Most of these events have open bars, and sure enough, I always get asked why I'm not drinking. When I explain that I just don't like alcohol, the responses range from "oh" to weirdness. I think I've even lost clients when they find out I don't drink.

One thing I've done to help is to do a one-drink rule. Since I often get offered a drink at these functions, I will accept the first drink offered to me, then stop there. I've found that tends to make people feel better, just the fact that I partook in it even if I refuse refills.

Society is weird.

For a lot of people, drinking is a way of coping with social insecurity; and if someone's sober in a room full of people cutting loose and getting drunk, said drunks might feel that they're being negatively judged by the one lucid person in the room.

I personally have never had anyone get weird about it.
