Doing some shopping and no one except employees wear them. The place is full as in pre-COVID weekend sale type of full.

It seems COVID "is over" in people minds.

i wear it outdoors if its a crowd or lots of people tightly packed , but Im not normally in that kind of situation

Nah. I'd be one of 1-2 people at a store wearing one and the only person at work. Covid cases in my county are almost single digits now. If I go to an area that's more populous and has more people wearing them I do

Mostly. If I go to my workplace or any public place, then yes. If I go by family or friends (which isnt often), then no.

Fuck social pressure. I'm the only one that wears one at work and I probably look dumb. It proved useful one day because a coworker decided it was totally fine going to work with (i hope) the flu. They were sneezing and couging all day.

I mean, it's not doing much of anything for me or anyone else if I'm the only person in a grocery store wearing one and doing self-checkout lol.

I wear a mask on the bus (it's still mandatory there, even though the drivers never enforce it) or in stores, but not at work because I'm generally in a room by myself.

I like to think that wearing my mask at least somewhat protects me as long as no one spits on my eyes or something like that.

So this seems like a good place to ask it ever since the new year, Ive been wearing KN95 masks instead of surgical masks. Ive never had an issue with a cloth covering my face for 8 hours a day, but damn, my ears get sore really quick from these masks. Ill take on ear loop off for like 20 seconds every 10-20 minutes and hold the mask up to my face for some momentary relief before putting it back on

Does anyone have any remedies for this kinda situation? I thought I might get some callouses going by now, but no such luck.

No. My town quit a few weeks ago and Im literally never putting one back on. I followed the rules for two years while other people didnt, I got three shots, and Im not giving up any more of my life because of this.

I had this happened a few times for me. It was horrible. What I did was to stop using the KN95 for a while meanwhile my ears healed a bit. Afterwards I try to use KN95 only for heavy duty stuff like going on an airplane or like dancing. For anything else Ive been sticking to the blue face masks.

I have a friend who can't get vaccinated because she's undergoing cancer treatments due to her desire to live.

Yeah. No one else I shop with does tho. And only like 5-10% of people in stores do. But I like the feeling that the people who do appreciate that I do too :3. Especially the workers who have to be there to make a living and obviously are still worried about their health.

I see using the mask as protecting myself, not others anymore. I'm triple vaccinated but still don't want to risk getting sick and having long term effects due to COVID.

Apparently it feels like it. When you lived an entire life of extreme privilege.

If theres a sign saying to wear one then I will but other than that nah.

If I'm in public shopping or something, I do what the employees do. I don't default to wearing a mask but I always have one on me just in case. Or if I know I'm going to visit my grandparents soon or something, I'll wear one in the weeks leading up to it. I think I like the idea of wearing one when I'm sick from now on though, so next time I catch a cold I probably will.

Remember when the argument was "Why should I have to wear a mask when it only effects people with preexisting conditions and old people?". Remember? Remember when people unabashedly showed that they're willing to throw away underprivileged human life immediately, if it means it's any type of inconvenience to the life they got that was already extremely more privileged than those that they were willing to throw away. That was psychologically fun for everyone in those groups. Dealing with the realization of the pandemic while also dealing with the realization that your country would immediately throw you away to die so that they could go get drunk and get haircuts. Such good people we have in this country. Very honorable people

Honestly, as disheartening as it was in the beginning. I kind of grew into the understanding that it's just the entitlement most here were born into. I don't think it's malicious in any way. I just think most of us are soft and can't do without the things we were born feeling entitled to. A lot of my loved ones fall under the umbrella I put up. And I don't think they're horrible people at all. In almost every other way they're compassionate and think about others first.

For some reason I thought CE was more inclined to be extremely cautious and use masks. Seems it is a 50/50 based on the poll results but people that dont use one are more vocal (based on the posts).

It's cool of you to feel that way on my end. Like I said in yet another post (lol), I don't think it's a malicious thing people are doing. This just is a place in my life I can make sacrifice. For all I know, it's other privileges I have in other areas of life that others don't that make me more willing. As emotional as it can make me and how hard I can go in on people for it, I don't actually feel like Im better than anyone over it. I don't know anyone's personal experiences.

I'm sorry. That's a tragic and somewhat rare scenario. Even if COVID died out in the next year or two, there would always be people in this world who were susceptible to what your average person may or may not be carrying.

I'll try to keep that scenario in mind before I make another comment like the one in my last post.

There's a lot going on.in the world. It's impossible to consider every person when talking on every subject. No reason for anyone to take it too personal. Especially since you're sympathetic enough to catch it and claim it

I honestly am not mad at that paranoia. I use to feel the same if I was the only one doing something. It's something I can understand at least. I don't think it would happen where I live tho. I also felt like harassing people in the beginning when they weren't wearing a mask. Emotional time

Not anymore. Transmission rates in nearly the entire country are low right now so I don't really see the need. When the cases start going back up in the areas around me I'll put the mask back on.
