I fiddled around with ship-related words for a bit, which were getting hits but not really leading me toward the title. What got it for me was the term Old English, which led directly to the answer as my next guess. Surprised that I didn't miss any guesses, but it being a long article with a bunch of words overall probably helped with that.

I worked through about 95 words myself and then had enough to know it was a branch of chemistry . I googled that and was able to get the answer from there. It isn't something I would have gotten on my own, but it is certainly possible for someone who is familiar with this field. Especially considering how long the word is.

Human is one of my basic guesses, so I clued into the fact that it was a disease early on, then tried some disease-y words before I noticed that the amount of reported cases has dropped sharply, so it must be a disease that isn't common anymore.

Also, that first h in the name messed me up for a bit. I spelled it without it first and didn't get anything, and it took me another 5 guesses or so before I thought to try it with the h.
