I remember seeing the American version probably on HBO when it came out. Was really blown away by it and I don't think I ever saw another movie like it back then. Did know what to even make of the last 40 minutes or so with how the pacing changed. Really stuck with me though.

Just watched the original Austrian version just now and boy that movie holds up great. Looked at a few scenes from the remake just for comparison's sake and I'm inclined to give the nod to the 97 version since I liked the parents more. They felt more like real people rather than seeing Tim Roth and Naomi Watts. Might rewatch that version at some point to give a real comparison.

This is one of those movies I can't recommend to most of my friends since they'd probably hate it and not trust future recommendations. What say you CE? Ya seen it? Did ya love it, hate it, or somewhere in between?

I watched the one where they reminded shit . beena long time but pretty sure it was the American one since I didn't realize it was a remake.

I watched the original. I liked it but I feel like I wasnt supposed to find it as funny as I did. Main bad dudes were so funny looking and the one guy breaking the 4th wall and looked like German Adam Sandler cracked me up. Also love the use of Naked City music.

It was pretty bad but from what I recall that was the point. Something about a message against violence by the director

I understand the point Haneke was trying to make with the film, but it was just manipulative with the audience by being meta.
