On a scale of 1-10 how important is it to you?

1 means you're afraid of what humans will naturally cling to and say/ type on the internet

10 means you're fine with whatever a human wants to say or type

Before social media, i was all about it.

Now, not so much. Too easy for spread of false information to greater number of people.
People,in general, are stupid.

So we have to be restricted and confined to a narrow set of information, that's approved and regulated? And by whom? People are stupid, government is full of people. Companies are full of people. What makes anyone or group more or less stupid than other groups or individuals?

Im guessing you mean from a cultural sense? As in, the idea that the range of topics people can discuss should be wide?

You jumped so quickly to an extreme that wasn't even stated by the person to whom you replied. I thought this was a genuine topic, but you're looking for an angle.

I'd say it's quite important to have it. With the exclusion of inciting violence, there should be absolutely no legal ramifications for spoken words in public, no matter how vile. How private entities deal with that is their own thing, but trying to police hatefulness is a slippery slope no matter how you try to do it.

Not really sure how voting for 1 or 10 makes sense.

I'm not fine with people saying slurs about my when I'm at work for example.

I'd be at more of an 8

5. It's not really that important, and we should openly pursue things like misinformation and hate speech.

I just want more people to recognize what "Freedom of Speech" actually is.

It isn't "I can say whatever I want, and there's nothing you can do about it!"

You can say whatever you want, but be ready to bear the consequences of what you say.

Yes, you must suffer the reprimand of others.

But if you couldn't, then there would be no free speech. That's the beauty of it. The government just can't lock your ass up as a result. That's vital to the system. This entire site is anathema to that, though. Get rid of the marking system.
