Hands down most depressing series finale in a cartoon. It was so depressing, they never aired it on Nick Jr. back in the day. I didn't even know there was one until I saw a YouTube video about it.

The series follows the life of a gnome, so the final episode is David's death. They never aired it on Nickelodeon.

It's still treated like a death. David and his wife say their goodbyes to each other. And Swift the fox howls and sheds a tear for them at the base of their trees.

One of the best cartoons of Nick Jr. from that era.

Also, the original Spanish version has sexual content with brief nudity and other disturbing things that no kid should watch.

I wasn't really into the show. However, I learned that it was based on a book series that is a foundation of modern German children's literature. The show and 70s cartoon (yah, it aired on Nick in the 80s, but the cartoon is older) was so popular over there and in Spain that Maya appears in pop culture references. The Maya CG movie that came out a few years back was due to this.

Not so much because of David and Lisa, that was actually a really beautiful "death" scene for any kind of show, but Swift being left alone made me feel really sad.

The Noozles were about the daughter of an archeologist who adopted anthropomorphic koalas. The koalas fell through a gate from another dimension and ended up at Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia.

"Dangermouse" and "Count Duckula" aired in the morning before the Nick Jr block. There was also "Bananaman", "Dennis the Menace" (the 60s live action show), and "Lassie" (the old 60s show).
