Now they've made 25 billion dollars on these movies and made characters like Rocket Racoon and Moon Knight house hold names.

Is there any other nerd franchise out there that's killing it as good as Marvel right now? DC...we won't go there. Star Wars just coming off an absolute terrible trilogy and and their shows are really hit miss at the moment.

And The Batman was one of my favourite movies I've seen a long time, and my favourite version of Batman on film by far. I wish the rest of their properties were doing as well.

I watch and enjoy the Marvel movies tbh but people can just not watch them and they don't have to replace them with anything lol

Pretty astounding they built a franchise off a character no one gave two shits about (Iron Man)

They never went bankrupt. They saved themselves by selling off the movies right to their characters.

Sony and Fox are to thank for them still being alive these days.

I think you mean they recovered from bankruptcy. And Sony and Fox didn't put the work in to get them where they are today. They're not to thank.

I can understand why most wouldnt care about comic books these days.

I feel like if the comic industry shifted to doing only collected editions (priced reasonably) wed see a lot more popularity.

too annoying to jump into comics and more annoying to follow it through. I just bought the Onslaught collected edition for $100 and loved it, but it only took so long to read it cause I didnt want to deal with the work to piece the story together.

The movie is touted as having 7 minutes of Imax. The problem is that it never lasts more than a second or two at a time (I think) throughout the movie. I had to turn it off because of eye strain trying to watch the two different aspect ratios randomly go back and forth.

Didn't notice this in theatres (we don't have imax). Is the streaming version like this?

Yes. I wouldn't have brought it up if I hadn't tried to watch it in Imax Enhanced this weekend.

The widescreen version is the normal one you watched in threaters.

I never watched his movies in Imax, but it would be hard to do multiple aspect ratios worse than Eternals.

Marvel was on the top of its game shortly before then. In the late 70s / early 80s there was talk of DC giving up on comic books and letting Marvel sell them. They always had top sales figures, and had moved into having top TV cartoons, the highest single issue sold, and such massive popularity such that a book staring Silver Sable getting "only 500,000 in sales" was seen as a failure.

Then they lost top talent to the forming of their own company that became a strong contender for sales.
Then the spectator boom went bust and 90% of comic shops failed
Then several of their side efforts like trading cards took a dive. (bough a baseball card company in time for the 94 strike)
Then their attempt to do their own distribution was a disaster of biblical proportions
Then they started bleeding fans due to price increases and too many shit events and gimmick covers.

Some of that they could have handled, but all of that in a span of 5 years led to bankruptcy being their only option to stay alive. Never take being at the top of the world to mean you can't fall out of hubris and raw stupidity. If you have a few hours to kill, this is a funny retelling of the history of that time for Marvel
