I recently left my sisters phone plan and got my own. When I was switching, the Verizon girl checked my address and mentioned my area code might change, because there were different county taxes between where my sister lives and where i live.

I'm kind of attached to my area code, so I asked if I could keep the old one, as my current address was only temporary and my sisters address was my permanent address. I didnt have any proof but I live in a college town so its probably pretty common to have people with area codes from different counties and states with local addresses.

Anyway, if I move out of state or even when I upgrade my phone or whatever, am I ever going to be forced to change my area code?

I know my area code changed 20+ years ago when I had a land-line because they split the area in two. I'm not sure if it matters now.

...you still need area codes lmao

it's still integral to the number, since there can be multiples of the same number, with the only difference being the area code.

a cell phone isn't going to know this unless it's a local phone number

Probably not. When I first moved to Texas, I was still using my Maryland area code. The only reason I changed was because I changed my number when I got a new service provider at the time But you should be able to keep the same area code (or full number) when you move Unless you get a new number AFTER you move. Then youll get an area code for that area
