Google Maps today has removed Blurred and Censored Effects from Russian Military Installations making them completely visible in High Definition for the general public, these Installations include Nuclear Silos, Naval Yards, Airbases, Command Centers, and Manufacturing Plants.

Most Militaries and Governments around the World are able to request Satellite Pictures of Sensitive Areas are redacted or just removed entirely from public view such as Area 51 in Nevada but it appears Google Maps has decided to remove this ability from the Russian Federation.

Hey Russian military bases, go fuck yourself

Good on google, but Russia was already threatening to shoot down satellites over star link. We'll have to see what happens, but depending on how damaging this is to Russia I can see the repercussions of this decision having drastic consequences globally over the next couple decades.

And by drastic consequences I don't mean Russia making threats. I mean the beginning of a new era where large nation states are scuttling satellites over key strategic positions to create enough debris to make it impossible for satellites to get in position to take these kinds of images. This could very well lead to the beginning of space mine warfare.

I'd imagine attacking satellites would be seen as an act of war.

Or the governments of the world claim tacit ownership of private satellites that belong to companies like Google so any attack on a Google satellite would be analogous to an attack on a military target

I feel that if China was going to attack Taiwan, they'd have done so by now.

They're seeing how badly things are going for Russia, both military and economically, so they've likely changed course if it even was their course.

As I understand it, it wouldn't take much internal and external economic damage for the Yuan to kareen hard downward.

It would be a difficult decision for China, they are just as intertwined with the West as the West is with them. I'm not sure they'd risk all that for the sake of Putin's little war escalating. China is very practical and calculating in their decision making.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I think China is watching this and realizing how nearly impossible it would be to take Taiwan by force. Russia supposedly has a stronger military and Ukraine is right there on their border. An amphibious assault by sea is like an order of magnitude more difficult.

Their only hope to take Taiwan is to somehow convince it's population they want to reunite, which probably will never happen.

Yeah, I don't see how this at all encourages China.

Sanctions that cripple your economy, military being made a laughing stock, rising tensions back at home when tensions are already fraught. What's to gain when they already pretend Taiwan is theirs when they can just continue pretending.

I've no doubt they will at some point (but I hope not), I just don't see how Russia's war will influence that any.

And for those acting surprised Google has this power.... really? This is nothing new. Do you think the earth itself is censored in those area's when taken from satellites?

Look, there's amphibious assaults

And then there's trying to take Taiwan. An island with towering walls of mountains and is so well defended you'd have to basically just bombard them into submission, which typically goes against the whole point of assuming control of an island.

You'd basically have to genocide the island into submission before you ever step a solid foot onto it. Otherwise you're sending your troops to their endless deaths.

I think most people understood what that meant. The moment Russia retaliates militarily outside Ukraine, its very likely the start of WW3. Russia TV has already implied we already ARE in WW3 cause they say Uraine is being backed up by US.
