NO! the fact that some scrubs actually believe this, sicken me to no end. just because they have fun with a game by being good at it, doesnt mean they arent having fun. clearly that is how they have fun with a game.

Extension of the mindset that work should not be fun, and that people who find their work fun should be willing to work for free.

i mean doesn't pro/professional imply a paid aspect? like it doesn't just mean "really good"?

i think the insinuation is one of expressing a primary motive, not mutual exclusiveness

the meaning of the statement is that money is the primary motive rather than fun. not that they do not also have fun

they have fun, they play for fun, and they play for money. all of those statements are true, end of story

There might be some enjoyment in it, like most skilled jobs. But a job is a job and they arent playing for fun most of the time.
Just ask yourself, would they be playing as much as they are if they werent getting paid for it?

If they were playing for fun over money then they wouldn't throw a bitch fit over contract offers and run away crying to another team giving them more money. Not to mention if it was mostly about "fun" then they wouldn't be demanding so much in the first place and be perfectly happy with a few million dollars instead of tens of millions.

well?

what did I start?

I stated what someone who says that is trying to express. I didn't say I agreed with them, nor was I making an argument. I'm saying that when someone says someone does something for X, not for Y, they are expressing what they think the persons main motivation is, not that Y isn't also a result of doing the thing

In NA for league of legends theres a lot of pros that won't play except team mandated scrims and the allotted games stated in their contract.

Obviously there's still a lot that play for the fun of it and the want to win something meaningful, but there's always gonna be bag chasers.

thats what I thought as well. Im sure overall pro players have fun or else they wouldn't be doing it, but im sure there are days when they have to be there even when they dont want to since its a job and just like any job sometimes theres obligations we have to meet that we dont want or will have fun with.

correct. there will be periods of time when they are not having fun, and yet they will keep doing it, because they need to make money (same as literally anyone who has a job)
