I'm a teacher, so eating a calorie surplus is basically impossible (no breakfast or lunch).

I go to the gym M-F for about an hour. 30 mins of cardio, 30-45 mins of weights.

But I don't know what to do to get slim but not big.

I was thinking protein powder with my dinner. Like 60mg of protein in addition to dinner?

This is hard in an occupation in which you literally don't get meals. :(

Human Growth Hormone. It is produced naturally in your body and as you age it decreases. Injecting more of it into your system can help immensely for trimming fat when used in conjunction with exercising. It also can help reduce the impacts of aging.

What is your goal here exactly? Just lose fat and not gain any muscle? Are you worried about gaining too much muscle? I'm confused by what you mean with staying slim when you are skinny fat?

Are you sure you're eating a caloric deficit? If you're only eating one meal a day, you must be starving by the time you eat. Really easy to overeat that way.

Also, if your goal is to slim down, why are you adding protein powder to your dinner? That's more for muscle growth.

If youre skinny fat then youre not at a caloric deficit. You gotta measure your ingredients to know where the extra calories are coming from.

Bro just lift weight and eat. Getting big isnt something you just fall into. It takes a lot of hard work. Hilarious you act like youre gonna just turn into some ball of muscle overnight.

Lift some weights and make sure youre getting enough protein. You should be getting a gram of protein for every pound you weigh.

A pound per gram may be a lot actually. At least a half gram per pound though.

Thats impossible.

You're definitely at a caloric surplus. Thats the only reason why youre skinny FAT. Besides, how would you know if youre at a deficit? Whats your BMR? How many measured calories do you eat in a day?

-do a dry fast (no food, no liquid) once a week (if that's too hard, do a wet fast, as in you don't eat but can drink liquid) or once every other week
-add more cardio to your routine, do less weights
-don't do protein powder with dinner, excess protein turns into fat
-cut bread, carbs, and all processed foods/sugars from your diet. keto is brought up a lot as a joke, but it's actually pretty healthy. really you want proteins, then a ton of vegetables.
-adding to that, think of any food/meals that makes you feel "heavy" after eating them, don't eat those. i can eat tons of veggies and not feel "heavy" but if i eat a cupcake or bread or something, i feel gross
-stop drinking alcohol
-stop drinking coffee, it messes up your metabolism and sleep. also increases cortisol which makes you more stressed (less efficient for everything, more likely to fall to bad habits). i lost the most weight after quitting coffee and caffeine.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I think everyone here is misunderstanding.

I was really overweight as a kid/teenager and lost almost all of it with nothing but cardio because I didn't know better.

I currently weigh 126 pounds and 5'7", but my love handles are huge and my stomach is definitely a skinny fat frame.

And you can call BS on my 300 calories all you want but it's true. Work, gym, quick 300-400 calorie frozen "healthy choice" meal, and that's it. I don't snack. I drink nothing but water (except for alcohol like once a month).

I'm assuming I have very little muscle mass.

If all you eat is one frozen dinner every day, that could be the problem. "diet" doesn't necessarily equate with healthy. Ditch the processed crap, and eat fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.

Then thats your problem. You look skinny fat because you have no muscle mass. Build muscle. You need a little fat to survive.

300 calories isnt a good idea. I dont know why youre doing that but its not gonna help you. Youre starving yourself.

He is remarkably likely to get scurvy.

Dead fucking serious, TC's diet is bad enough that he may end up with a pirate's disease from malnutrition.

I'm being completely serious when I tell you that this diet is outright dangerous.

Like, I kinda joked about scurvy before but it's legit a possibility.

Same with Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, and that's fairly rare outside of serious alcoholism or anorexia/bulemia.

To name two examples of vitamin deficiencies in your future, there are other possibilities.

i thought 300 calories a day was unhealthy, but apparently if you get all your vitamins it might actually be possible.

anyway, TC, you havent responded to any of the serious posts in this topic, but I want to stress again that normal food and exercise wont make you big.

look at any female celeb who is skinny. I guarantee you they lift weights. think of ninjas: they can be strong and skinny at the same time. getting a ninja body will not make you bulk up. if anything, lifting will tighten up your frame and give you the results (looking skinny) that you want.

you also needa realize this is advice for you; im not judging you, you know what you want and want to make those changes, and I think that's good, but you seem to be rejecting (i.e. ignoring) any advice that isn't "eat less, more cardio."

I got you, TC
Here we go:

Youre experiencing this lower level of muscle plus a weaker state of health because you dont eat proper. Not talking about the processed crap (which doesnt help) but you dont eat enough.

Sounds counter intuitive but your body needs a level of base and if it requires lets say for ex:
2700 calories per day yet youve been eating 1000-1700 on random days then youre not just on a deficit for lack of muscle sustainment but youre also not eating adequate levels of the key protein/carbs/fats for health thus leading to thin figure with moderate levels of fat.

Eat normal and try to hit your average. Youll probably start to feel better since it sounds like youve been starving your body. Figure out your calories per day and your macros.

https://www.calculator.net/tdee-calculator.html

This is almost as hard for people as doing a crash diet or bulk because people arent used to hitting their macros daily. Its always a lesser state or an inflated one, never the average (maintenance). If this is your first time understanding this then Im sorry youve been pushed and pulled by industries that dont preach sustainability.

This is the most concise explanation of skinny fat Ive come across in just the first 3mins. At 5:49 he recommends a bulk for people in your situation but its not just eating more, its eating more the right way.

I went through this years ago, hit my macros on the daily and recomposition occurred. It was strange at first to lose fat, fill out better while I felt like I was eating more than I ever have. The key were the macros but more so the adequate levels of protein.
A fat person can do the same thing if they hit their macros and lift; its body recomposition.
Also, make sure to sleep properly and enough. Its the foundation which health stands on.

TLDR: eat more but correctly

Seriously TC, this. Wake up earlier and eat breakfast, make time during your work day to eat lunch and eat more than frozen meals for dinner. 300 calories is far far below what the average adult body burns to function every day. You'll for sure lose weight doing that, but that is definitely not good for your body long term.

Eat regularly throughout the day, including lean protein and green vegetables, and lift weights. You'll see your figure improve for sure.

Makes sense, that was a good video. What was your height and weight before and after recomposition?

And on topic, TC definitely needs to eat more, and I don't believe for a second that teachers can't find time for breakfast and lunch. The TV dinner is too little as well.
