Shame. I've always been jealous of cities that have subways. I think subway systems are very sweet to have. Much better than riding the bus. But yea..... I dont usually think about the bad sides of it

It depends on where you live. The worst that can happen in my area is suicide or fisticuffs. I've personally been a victim of both. The suicide slowed my subway ride to a crawl, and I was punched several times in a city bus but suffered no lasting injuries. The first perpetrator obviously died and the second one was convicted of assault and battery.

Your cutoffs for what counts as an encounter with a violent and belligerent person probably is different than mine.

I was in New York a few years ago (mostly Manhattan but still) and thought the city felt incredibly safe and enjoyed exploring it.

I took the subway in the middle of the day (so not an overly busy train which is actually when the crazies can get more brave in my experience) to Coney Island and it was fine.

Sometimes extreme events and tragedies can happen. It sucks but it doesn't represent the day to day experience for most people. The Tokyo subway had a mass stabbing a few months ago.

I can't imagine the majority of people who use the subway have much of a choice. The subway fucking sucks.

Saw pictures of the victims on the floor. All of them looked Asian.

If I were Asian, I'd just get out of the country. Especially if you are a high skilled white collar worker. Go to Denmark, Switzerland or whatever.
