Current Events > it sucks knowing that my life is essentially over at age 35

-not planning on getting married
-not planning on having kids
-already have the job im going to retire with so no more promotions (i get generous regular automatic pay raises annually); i'm already at the top of my range, only way to go any higher is to become a supervisor but it's not worth it: 3x more work for 10% raise
-already bought my luxury condo
-am already a master pick up artist
-accomplished every other goal i've ever had

the next events i have to look forward to/work towards in life is getting my rolex and then retirement at age 55, 20 years from now

sort of. Nothing realistic. Used to think I wanted to write novels. But I eventually realized I have no writing skill

Thats pretty cool tho tc. Now you can just settle into the flow and do stuff you enjoy, take some time and smell the flowers

yeah, unfortunately it also really highlights how futile life is. i don't want to make new goals for the sake of having goals. i made/accomplished these goals to set myself up for life and now im just like "what is life, what's the point"

im already 35 and been like this all my life. learned how to be a pick up artist for the optimal way to get into the dating game and possibly change that. but being able to date/have anyone you want just really makes you realize how shallow it is. 90% of the time i'd prefer to just not deal with people period

I've known a couple people who tried to stave off depression by pushing harder on their studies and work and when they finally hit that point where they had achieved what they set out to achieve they slammed down hard. At that point most of them tried to stem it off with drugs and alcohol. It never works.

Might want to try looking into hobbies and things that are meaningful to you and actually do them, as anyone who says there life is over at 35 is clearly having some trouble in the meaningful activities department.

The bold is true for me as well. Hence I am in a relationship so I am done with the shallowness. She is also very introverted so we have our space and individuality.

i have lots of hobbies, i just struggle with how meaningless life is as a concept

damn that's what happened to me. Got into an elite college, got a FANG tier job as an engineer, and made an assload amount of money. Extremely depressed. Going to start seeing therapy soon.

Were your friends able to get out of it?

i think life is meaningless too but that doesnt mean I dont get a lot of enjoyment out of activities I like doing, I didnt feel that way when I was depressed though, now it seems irrelevant to me life being meaningless. Life can be meaningless but its meaningless that its meaningless
