I heard the DS version does something clever with the dual screens that couldn't be replicated.

It's only the last puzzle in the game that was better on DS

Nonary games version is much better overall

The final puzzle and the twist can't be replicated. But the PC version has improvements such as a timeline/chapter select that make it better overall

no because the game relies heavily on the touchscreen

but its still decent for the story

yes i have played both the original version (which i sold years ago for far less than its worth now, ugh) and the steam version

if you dont have a DS and cant get one, the game is absolutely worth playing on PC regardless. if you have access to a DS, play it on that since it utilises the touch screen in a way that isnt replicated to any port and you miss out on part of the experience

There's an unique way of story-telling that can only be done on the DS and a better puzzle during the final moments. However, the port will allow you to pick up from any point instead of making you start from the beginning every single time you want to go down a different path and some pretty great voice acting for story scenes. I just find it hard to go back to the DS version.

In slightly more detail but not at all "story-spoiling" spoilers for the final puzzle: The port's final puzzle is crazy easy by just figuring out the word, but the DS's puzzle is straight up Sudoku, which imo, isn't that hard either, but again, the literal WAY they tell the story at this moment is better.

The only thing different is the final puzzle. But being able to do chapter select for new playthroughs in 999 makes the current gen ports MUCH better than the DS version >_>
