shit sucks tbh. weirdest thing to describe to someone. it's like the numbers change "shape" and "size" in your head.. used to be known as "math dyslexia"

it's super embarrassing.

Do you mean like the numbers themselves shift around or more like your perception of the numbers changes?

Both. It's really frustratingly difficult to explain. If I'm doing, say, even basic multiplication and calculate it, I'll get the right number ... for a moment, then it disappears and is replaced with the numbers that compose the whole problem, then I'll immediately forget the product and now I'm only thinking of part of the problem and not the whole, and have to start all over again.

I am pretty much incapable of doing anything above 4th grade math without using a calculator and quadruple checking

if i'm presented two numbers of different font size and told to figure out which is the bigger number, the one in the bigger front size is always my immediate answer and I have to force myself to stop, slow down and think

I think I follow.

Is it exclusively with mental math or do you have problems when you write it out as well?

Problems when I write it out as well, but it helps me keep track of it. Though I do sometimes write down the wrong number (which is the reason I check it so many times)

but god damn are my language skills top notch. I'm a BLING, worst acronym for a degree

Gotcha.

My sister has a pretty mild form of this, mostly shows up with phone numbers.

lol, I have no problem memorizing phone numbers, but that could be due to mild autism. i can remember most phone numbers after seeing them only once or twice.

Is it the same with other concrete numbers?

Addresses, locker combinations, that sort of thing?

I've never used a combination locker in my life so honestly I don't know. We don't really use lockers in Australia and where we do they're always padlocks
