Ah, the good old days where we would spend hours trying to unlock Luigi in Mario 64 or find the Triforce in OoT or catch Mew by the truck near the S.S. Anne

In spite of it all being for naught, it doesn't feel like a waste

I realized I had no way to objectively measure how stupid something sounded after finding Missingno.

Like, that was convuleted enough to blow my child mind, what the fuck do I know about what might reveal Luigi?

Imagine how many rumors and shit would have been said if Elden Ring existed before the internet was mainstream.

Idk, I had the internet when I was in elementary school and there was no shortage of dumbass fansites swearing up and down that Cloud City and Pokegods were confirmed to work.

We're just all old now and (slightly) less gullible. I'm sure kids probably still have dumb rumors, especially with how much easier it is to fake this shit.

Back in the day, creating a ROM hack so you could "prove" Mew was under a truck would he unheard of. Now it's just a cute little joke for a speedrun stream >_>

Nowadays we learn most secrets through leaks and the rest through datamining, and youtube thumbnails will spoil each one within the day whether you want them to or not.

I'm sorry, but 10,000 of ANYTHING on a PS2 would absolutely destroy your framerate. It'd be like playing chess through the mail. ~johnboy1

Not true. Ever play GTA, RDR?

Rockstar definitely likes to cultivate mysteries about their games online

I think video footage being way more common makes it harder than ever to fake shit within games.

This sort of stuff does still exist for leaks and the like though. But once a game is out the mystery is gone.

There was some fucking game cheat website at the top of google search that would accept random submissions.

There was a ton of obvious Navi-tier advice, a bunch of trolls, and a small number of actually useful game cheats/tricks. And poor little me believed all of it. I tried so hard to get Pikablu in Pokemon Yellow... sigh.

Not quite the same, but there's still a few "holy crap, that WORKS?" secrets that sound like urban legends, but are actually true.

Like just recently, the "hit a wall 50 times to break it" thing in Elden Ring.
