Social media, well, pretty much all online content is blatantly manipulative. They do this because they want you to engage with the content. Thats why everything from reddit to netflix bombards you with obnoxious "suggestions" that you can't turn off.

I will literally unsub from a subreddit and it still shows up in my feed because "you visited this one before". Ive had to do the "show me less" option multiple times before some of them finally disappeared <_>

I'm also convinced the Youtube algorithm isnt entirely automated, and that they go out of their way to plant certain widespread suggestions to grab viral attention. >_>
