Is Will Smith in a toxic relationship?

https://twitter.com/LoboLangWorld/status/1509341796249264129

New footage from inside the Dolby Theater shows Jada Pinkett Smith's reaction after Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars. A second video going viral shows Rock in the aftermath of the assault.

Someone sitting behind the Smiths posted a TikTok of the King Richard star walking away from the stage after the slap. When Rock tells the audience that "Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me," it appears as if Pinkett Smith laughs. Smith starts yelling at Rock to "keep my wife's name out your f****** mouth" and the actress sits still staring at the comedian. Pinkett Smith seemingly laughs again when Rock declared the incident as "the greatest night in the history of television."

Like everyone said the day it happened, Jada was clearly cool with this.

Yea. It definitely seemed like she didnt think Will was serious at first. Because her body language changes and after Chris Rock says something and everyone kinda laughs, she seems to awkwardly laugh too.

Jumping to conclusions too quickly, folks. People can laugh for reasons beyond amusement. An attempted avoidance at social tensions, or to save face and pretend like there wasn't embarrassment.

I can't say for sure what was going through her head. But I personally would of laughed to Chris trying to lighten the mood so I could try to get pass the embarrassment as quick as possible. This feels like a giant reach with only this context.

I don't even care to defend Jada like that, but most speculation I heard against her are reaching so hard.

People are like "you should just shrug off the joke and deal with it after". But then when she does that immediately after the situation she could of had nothing to do with escalates, now she's in the wrong for that. They're using speculation on top of their other speculations now. They speculate it was her that influenced it, then confirm that as fact with no proof and use it to say she now needs to act a certain way after, based on the first speculation that was never confirmed true in any way. Creating a rabbit hole of speculation.

I dunno if this post is confusing lol

Edit: I also just noticed there's no "I don't know" option in the poll. Making all the options based around speculation themselves with no more reasonable option for people who realize there's way more to relationships than what we see

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/kareem-abdul-jabbar-will-smith-perpetuated-stereotypes-black-community-slapping-chris-rock-oscars-145518033.html

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is expressing his own feelings on the matter, penning a blog post arguing that Smith's actions are a blow to men, women, the entertainment industry and the Black community.

With a single petulant blow, he advocated violence, diminished women, insulted the entertainment industry, and perpetuated stereotypes about the Black community, Abdul-Jabbar writes of Smith, echoing the opinion expressed on Monday by Todayhost Craig Melvin that it was "troubling on so many levels" for men of color.

Abdul-Jabbar argues the incident was more than just a slap to Rock, but rather a slap to women.

By hitting Rock, he announced that his wife was incapable of defending herself against words, he states. This patronizing, paternal attitude infantilizes women and reduces them to helpless damsels needing a Big Strong Man to defend their honor least they swoon from the vapors. If he was really doing it for his wife, and not his own need to prove himself, he might have thought about the negative attention this brought on them, much harsher than the benign joke. That would have been truly defending and respecting her.

This women need men to defend them is the same justification currently being proclaimed by conservatives passing laws to restrict abortion and the LGBTQ+ community, he continued, adding that Smiths self-serving acceptance speech in which he talked about protecting his family in the same way his character in King Richard, for which he won an Oscar, was tone deaf.

Honestly, I dont think hes in a good place at all. People always calling him soft, people constantly making fun of his kids, Jada being a little crazy. Hes spent the last 3 or so years trying to open up about his personal life and I guess in a way vent. He had his book, and that weight loss thing he seemed kinda self conscious about. the man has a literal Disney show where he does crazy things in an attempt to find himself again.

and the only thing that happened is people made memes and fell for clickbait headlines. Hes trying to save a marriage he still very clearly wants to work. Even when he gave his acceptance speech. The crying didnt feel like tears of joy or regret. It looked like his emotions just all started to spill out

Im not trying to act like a psychiatrist or excuse his behavior, but what he did is completely out of character for him. This isnt the same Will Smith I grew up watching for the past 30 years. I think maybe just put away the pitchforks and the bloodlust and see if hes ok first. We always want to say we care about mental health, but then when someone out of character exhibits signs of needing that help we just continue attacking him. This isnt like Kanye who needs the help but has made it a habit and pattern going on 15 years almost. This is Will Smith. Im glad he had people like Denzel there supporting him after what happened. It seems like he needs more of that.

You can't really blame marriage issues on a single person regardless. The family has been pretty kooky for quite a long time. They're rich and eccentric.

Especially since y'know it was Will Smith who lost control of his temper in this scenario and his son also tweeted support for it.

When it comes to the actual slap itself Will is 100% to blame. We can only speculate on the rest.

It's fine saying he's going through shit and hit a breaking point but blaming that solely on his wife without knowing any of these people personally seems pretty unfair.

I mean, I just dont see why you want him attacked so badly. Millionaire actors are still human but its whatever. You all can feel however you want. Attacked so badly? The fuck are you talking about? Nothing has happened to him. The Academy is barely talking about kicking him, which is the fairest thing.

You're accusing people of hating the Smiths when it seems like you like them too much and are blinded by it and making all these excuses. Regular people face far more scrutiny and consequences and they've never afford them any benefits of the doubt.

But Will Smith has an army of apologists and they're not even being subtle about it. They're clear that they love him so much, they can't picture him doing this and need to make all these pathetic excuses like an apologist.

You're conflating people hating them, with anybody criticizing Will for what he did on Sunday. It doesn't work like that. It's clear you don't see it as a big deal and have spent considerable time trying to downplay it. But have no ability to see why others might.

The whole planet is talking about it, and people are gonna have emotions. You're constantly here getting mad at shit, so I'm not sure why it bothers you so much.
