That's a possibility, since the draw groups have already been determined. England is in Pot A, the US is in Pot B.

Based on Pot A, the US has very little chance of winning their group unless they're drawn against Qatar. Or England ;)

Yeah it goes by points. Soccer is kind of weird with standings and stuff. So basically you get 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. If it's tied they go by goal differential. So by Costa Rica winning and US losing, they both have 25 points but the US has a better goal differential so they win the tiebreaker. What i dont understand is these guys on costa rica celebrating like they just won the lottery when they scored a goal lmao. You knew going in you needed 5 goals to advance so 1 goal doesn't do anything for you. You know what they say about guys like that. They care more about themself than the team. It's like in football when youre down 48-0 and you finally get a touchdown and make a jackass out of yourself by celebrating. There's nothing to celebrate.

Disagree. They knew going in that they had to perform in order to get into a one game playoff, because they also knew that they weren't going to bury the US team by enough goals in one match to get into the WC directly.

They also knew that their playoff is against the Oceania champion. They have to fancy their chances of advancing to the WC against New Zealand, a team they should be able to beat without too much trouble.

They were already in the playoff. Panana even with a win would not over take costa rica even with a loss.

Still, they weren't going to put six past the US. Might as well celebrate when you beat a rival in front of the home fans. I don't see a problem with it.
