This is in line with the headline I saw the other day saying Russian troops have no idea what happened at Chernobyl in the past. Guess that's what you get with information control and using young troops.

The problem with people pretending to be strong men without the power/competence to actually follow through is that every once and a while someone calls your bluff and the house of cards falls apart.

Russia had to take Ukraine immediately because they had no plan, no supplies and no other endgame.

Going through the area is like understandable and wouldnt be particularly dangerous. Digging trenches and whatnot is just a terrible idea though.

? It should be pretty dangerous. The dangerous part of a radiated area is the dust and topsoil that can easily get disturbed by a marching army.

I think it's more likely they just had orders to occupy the area, and just started doing basic occupation stuff in general like dig trenches, and no one gave a second thought about what that could do in there

Whats stopping him from telling his commanders that they currently have irradiated top soil they can use as a weapon?

Just going through results in you being in an area less than like actually trying to do stuff in the area and there are ways to minimize the amount of dust put into the air. Actually digging in it exposes those folks to a lot more radioactive material.

I dont think you have ever tried traveling through a dusty area if you think it is not likely to kick up a lot of dust traveling through it. Specially if it is a large group of people and if there are vehicles. Dont know much about the red forest, but if there are properly maintained roads, then sure maybe they can prevent a ton of dirt and dust.
