20) "Pro Lover" from Raymond v. Raymond (2010): The most notable thing about this song is that its beat is instantly memorable. I think maybe it was sampled from somewhere? In any case, it's a pretty good tune about being pro at The Game. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis may have not been the right producers if Usher was looking for any hit singles, but at least they whipped out some quality music for him on this album.
19) "Mars vs Venus" from Raymond v. Raymond (2010): I'm not the biggest on slow jams, but this one right here is some good baby-making music. He even says "BIG BANG" Big Bang Attack! Sorry, I had to.

18) "There Goes My Baby" from Raymond v. Raymond (2010): Best song off Raymond v. Raymond, as well as his best song post-Here I Stand. It has a bit of that generic 2010s R&B/pop vibe to it, but at its core, it's a classic ballad. Usher was truly the right guy to lay the vocals down here.
17) "Here I Stand" from Here I Stand (2008): Bit hollow in retrospect, but then again, we all knew Usher's marriage wouldn't last. At least this is a good ballad; I feel it's his "The Lady in My Life".

16) "Something Special" from Here I Stand (2008): Definitely the best song off Here I Stand, as well his best song post-Confessions. Dupri brought his A-game here, combing a retro soul sound with a modern contemporary R&B approach. I'd have liked it as a single, aimed towards the R&B stations.
15) "That's What It's Made For" from Confessions (2004): Makes for some nice smashin' music, even if that one Superman lyric was wack.

My Way is still lyrically savage to this day. Wasn't he like 16-17 at the time? Telling grown men their women were wrapped around his teenage finger.

14) "Bad Girl" from Confessions (2004): Really good vocals here; who knew a player could have this much soul? May have somewhat popularized in recent years by a certain vine; I think some homeless dude was singing it, and he actually did a good job. Doubt any "bad girls" got at him, though.
13) "Nice & Slow" from My Way (1997): A slow jam classic. Memorable lyrics, too. Usher was still noticeably green and young here, but he sounds like a prodigy in many ways.

12) "My Way" from My Way (1997): I dunno how much of a player Usher was in his younger days, but if these lyrics are to be believed, he was dangerous. His rapping isn't bad, either. I wonder if this inspired any incels, though. But the music video with Tyrese Gibson was funny.
11) "U Don't Have to Call" from 8701 (2001): Definitely the closest Usher ever got to Michael Jackson. I read somewhere that this was even made for MJ; it's not surprising because the influence is everywhere on this song. It may sound like a rather typical Neptunes beat, but it's cleverly put together and Usher's vocals soar. I've probably listened to this more than any other Usher song, tbh; you could interchange it with No.10 on the list, which is ...

10) "Yeah" from Confessions (2004): Yeah (no pun intended), you know I had to put this somewhere in the top 10; it's Usher's most iconic song. Granted, it's a typical crunk song that was clearly made to cash in on that trend; the beat is basically just "Freek-a-Leek", also produced by Lil Jon. But still, this song was the turning point of Usher's career; I'll put this high.
9) "My Boo" from Confessions (2004): Another iconic song from Confessions; this one has Alicia Keys, who has beautiful chemistry with Usher. Truly one of the best duets of the 2000s.

8) "Superstar" from Confessions (2004): It's a bit of a shame that it was never a single. Granted, the album had 5 top ten hits on the Hot 100, four of which were number ones, so it wasn't necessary, but I think it would have done alright as a sixth, final single in 2005. It's hella catchy.
7) "Caught Up" from Confessions (2004): Wasn't a No.1, but it did quite well as a single. It's definitely the best song Dre & Vidal produced for Usher.

6) "U Remind Me" from 8701 (2001): Welcome back to 2001, when Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were still one of the biggest producers in the game. Damn, this song is catchy and that beach-ish beat is memorable, albeit a little generic. How many songs have used it? 50 Cent's "P.I.M.P." comes to mind. You're definitely reminded (no pun intended) of something when you hear it. But it's still a really good song.
5) "Confessions, Part 2" from Confessions (2004): Oh, man, Usher was huge in 2004 when he dropped Confessions. It sorta felt like he was the new Michael Jackson. The hit singles, the music videos, the rumors about him having a baby with another woman behind his girlfriend's back. That was actually Jermaine Dupri's story, but putting elements of that in an Usher song was a genius move to make him a superstar. Song is good for memes, too.

4) "Throwback" from Confessions (2004): Damn near the best song in Confessions. Just Blaze knocked it out of the park with the production. Songs like this truly show how hiphop can be soulful, too. This is Hip Hop Soul.

And now we enter the top 3 ...

3. "You Make Me Wanna..." (Bronze) from My Way (1997): Usher's commercial breakthrough song. The one to put him on the map. Produced by Jermaine Dupri, the Quincy Jones to Usher's MJ who has produced a lot of the songs on this list (shoutout to Bryan Michael-Cox; he also co-produced some of the stuff Dupri made), this is the song that Usher found his own unique sound on. When you think of Usher, chances are you'll think R&B breakup music. This was the song to make that his signature.

2. "U Got It Bad" (Silver) from 8701 (2001): And while Usher found his own sound on "You Make Me Wanna...", he improved it here, again thanks to Jermaine Dupri. Damn near his best song ever; honestly, it wouldn't be wrong to say it is his best. So many people identify with this classic. But while it's a timeless classic, I have to say Usher's very best is ...

1. "Burn" from Confessions (Gold) (2004): Now this is the definitive Usher song. He found his own sound on "You Make Me Wanna...", Improved it on "U Got It Bad" and perfected it here. Praise Dupri. This was Usher's peak. Shame he'll never top it, but this is truly one of the best songs in the 2000s, as well as one of the best R&B songs ever. I'd say Usher should be satisfied with his career even if he sold out later.

So yeah, Usher has some pretty good songs. However, none of his albums were ever great; Confessions was his best, but even then, it's uneven and has noticeable filler (And My Boo wasn't even on the original version of the album; I wouldn't count bonus tracks as part of the main album. Only the original release matters; adding new songs later to make it seem better is cheap). My Way and 8702 are basically just "singles 'n' filler"

He definitely went downhill after Confessions, though. For the most part, his albums just have a standouts at best,; there always too much fluff. His transition to pop was also detrimental to the quality of his music; it arguably started with Yeah, and with Love in their Club, it wasn't even a question. Then he did OMG and DJ Got Us Falling in Love back to back, and that was it for him.

I haven't even listened to his last album. Hard 2 Love or some shit? Fitting title, because it probably sucked. Like a year or two ago I read he was doing a Confessions follow-up album? Smh lol

i disagree.

i think his first three albums is probably the greatest 3 album run in RnB since MJ.

8701 is like 5 songs too long and the weakest of the three But hes still hitting like 15 out 40 tracks are HITS, tracks including interludes.

Thats a fucking nutty run

The story with Throwback is interesting. The producer Just Blaze says it doesn't quite fit on the Confessions musically, but it was included simply because it was really good, calling it the "blackest" song on the album.

Usher didn't like it and had to be convinced to keep it on the tracklist. Of course, Usher didn't like "Yeah" either and wanted "Burn" to be the first single. He really needed other people to guide him.
