Looks interesting at face value and debating if I want it.

I've played it a bit.

The focus of the game is customizing your mechs visually. It's more or less a gunpla simulator.

The missions you run are very short, almost never consist of anything more than a few brief combat encounters, and are really there to allow you to unlock more cosmetic parts for your mechs.

That's a shame :( it looked fun I was hoping for something like armored core.

You and me both lol. I bought it initially because it looked like it'd be similar.
Not saying it's a bad game, but the combat definitely isn't the focus.
