I remember a good deal of hype around this game, but now that it's in early access nobody is talking about it. I wonder why?

Maybe they should have made a sequel to darkest dungeon, instead of just cloning another generic roguelite?

Seems like there was a lot of focus on simplifying and streamlining, by which I mean they removed all the content and made the average playthrough about 100x shorter. Because that's what a sequel should do.

Honestly, the game seems pretty ripe for microtransactions. Wouldnt be surprised if red hook went that route to recoup their losses when their actual full release completely fucking bombs.

Yeah, for one it's Epic exclusive. The other thing that I recall hearing is that the new relationship system sucks. Instead of the party disintegrating because of eldritch horrors (like spooky wine thrown in the face), they're bickering like high school kids over relationships. I was really hoping a sequel would refine the trait system so that if the leper has a breakdown from fighting undead he'd be afraid of them rather than randomly afraid of the cove or cheating at poker.

Also remember hearing that it's a slog of a game because it's now a normal roguelike. The entire point is the carriage ride to Hell and you have to start over each time you die; rather than having the hamlet send out disposable adventurers and investing in them.

It's good, though it's a bit different from the original and it's in early access on the Epic store.

It does have some issues, but so did the original when it was first being developed, obviously. I think that Red Hook has proven that they're good at refining a game in Early Access, and I think DD2 has good bones, so I am fairly confident it will turn out solid.

I think I'll always like the first game more, though.

I dislike almost everything I've heard about it so far. I wanted Darkest Dungeon 2 not whatever the fuck this is supposed to be.

Darkest Dungeon 2: The stakes have never been lower.

Gone are the days of your actions having consequences. Gone are the days of a heroes death actually mattering. What everyone REALLY wanted was another slay the spire clone.

Not to keep being negative but you nailed it with slay the spire. I don't get why that game is so beloved it's barebones looks like a cell phone game and is super generic.

I loved the aesthetic of 1, but I just wasn't in the mood for the punishment of it. I absolutely love reds and blacks and death and... just burn everything to hell...
