I mean look, nowadays I'm no hermit or anything but I'd rather pick lazing at home and playing video games than ever going out for a hike and whatnot. Let alone do outdoor activities...

Granted, I think I have some detachment from reality disorder or something since I grew up mostly playing video games at home and tend to have little social life due to being bullied from young.

But regardless, now whenever I go out or overseas to travel, it doesnt matter. Real-life natural scenery just feel so... meh. It's like I dont feel impressed or happy or anything. I feel and I really feel... absolutely... nothing looking at sceneries of nature.
If anything, I just get bothered by all the side effects instead like the heat, the insects, the planning/packing required, the dirt on my clothes and shoes I get etc.
It doesn't matter how much I try. In fact there was a time recently I tried going for as many hikes as I possibly could and even joined two outdoors clubs in my school to grab any opportunity to go outdoors. But nope, I still never enjoyed the experiences.

The very ironic and funny thing is I'm really into big open world video games and seeing great HD graphics of nature on my computer screen hugely impresses me all the time. But not when I see the same scenes of nature in the real world. I dont know. Call me weird. I guess I'm really the only one in the world like this

I dunno. Im the opposite. But you gotta do what makes you happy, not what makes others happy. Well, unless that other is someone you love.

I get seasonal depression because I need an outdoor life to be happy.

That's normal dude. That's like how 99.99% of people in the world feel like. They LOVE nature. Who doesn't?

I've never even met a single person in my life who actually doesn't like nature like I do.

But you gotta do what makes you happy, not what makes others happy. Well, unless that other is someone you love.
Yeah, that's what I learnt so nowadays I'm drawing back into a hermit state again lol. But looking back, I realized my history of playing video games isn't a waste of time. No, these were the times I was truly happy. Instead of going out there...socializing...trying to live up to people's expectaitons of me and being someone I'm not.

But at the same time, I fear this may take a huge dent into my social life and standing. I'm still single and filling my life experiences mostly on video games isnt going to help one bit in the conversation topics I can engage people with

I basically spend half of my day outside most days in weather some people despise (constant rain). You get used to it, things about it bother you less over time. If you can't handle being bugged by the rain and accept it, everything outside will just be a nightmare including the vistas. That said it's not like you have the obligation to like something you simply don't. You do you.

Yeah. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want to attempt to, you gotta find that balance. Creating that balance involves trying to do stuff you don't want to until it clicks. I dunno of it can be learned. Even as a gamer kid, I always picked being outdoors first. You might just have to find a partner online that is also a hermit. But then you gotta make sure at least one of you is forward enough to make a forward moving relationship and not just both get comfortable with an underwhelming relationship until it eventually falls apart with no one making the move needed

Man. I hate how everyone around me uses weather apps as an excuse not to do anything. I miss back when if it rained, we dealt with it or improvised. Now people just use any excuse not to go out.

I like going for walks and being outside (provided it's not too humid/buggy)

People who camp can go screw, though. We invented houses and electricity to get away from having to do that shit...

Same way. Really big shit is somewhat interesting to see in person because you can feel the scale of it better. Otherwise I can just look at a picture of anything and get the same effect. Once in awhile other pretty shit is nice, but it lasts like 5 seconds and isn't worth the actual trip to see it.

Unfortunately, loved ones like that type of stuff and I enjoy them. So I'm often forced to go along if I want to spend time with them sharing something they're into. I dont outright hate it or anything. Just not my thing.

I also spend most of my time outdoors (or used to... before covid). I'm honestly not a petty person or anything about the weahter. In fact I'm the kind of guy who'll be the first to jump into a pool or walk calmly in a heavy stormy rain. I really just... don't care. And I think that's also why I dont care about nature to begin with

exactly, my friend. Whenever someone talks about travelling, I'm just like, "why spend thousands of dollars to travel when you can just hop on Youtube and watch some guy do the travelling for you?"

Want to see a certain scenery? Uh why not just google an image of it and admire the image instead lol

To answer the TC's question with my own thoughts.
I'd say it's because society is told to behave like that. So you had accepted what they were telling you instead of you relying on your own instincts. Being in nature is more natural and liberating than sitting inside soaking in radiowaves from everyone's wifi. Do you have chips and pop with your gaming? Also a contributing factor to that unhealthly lifestyle being forced onto other people.

Companies definitely profit more from you sitting inside all day using and consuming stuff they sell. It's definitely a lifestyle a lot of them want to sell

I like to think logically so I just dont see the point in that...

I'd rather play an open world game where I can admire all the awesome mysterious fantasy elements around me than in the real world where I already know everything around me. This isnt like the 1800s when people were still secluded within their own cities/towns and hardly had the chance to explore outside. Now with the internet we know everything already. Wanna see that rare cave? Google it. Wanna see how the amazon forest looks like? Google it. Wanna see how it's like a desert? Google it

Like I just dont understand. Why'd people want to go see a bunch of green trees for? We already know and can see the whole world around us.
Why not see a bunch of purple trees on another planet or something? Wouldnt that be more fresh and cooler?

I do agree. Certain things. Like sure, if I had the chance to go climb a snow mountain I might consider. But ask me to go outside into the nearby park or something to admire the trees and I'd say "No freaking way.'

I don't blame you, I get bored fast doing that stuff too. I also don't particularly like traveling either. I'm happiest at home just getting to do what I want to do.

I'm not opposed to going out and seeing nature, though. I don't have anyone to do it with, so I never have any reason to seek it out especially since I'm more than happy just doing something at my house.

It's also funny with the rise of video game streaming.

These same people who stress the importance of going out there and experiencing things would rather watch people play video games than play the video games themselves.

I dont think we would vibe well at all if we met lol. I dont mean that in a disrespectful way, its just the truth.

I also enjoy it for the stories I can tell. Talking with someone about how my friends and I got caught in a heavy rainstorm on a river while kayaking, finding out were not going to make our destination by nightfall, discovering an old access point on private hunting grounds and hiking through the woods at night with all our gear with coyotes howling in the distance until we made it to a farm where we had to wait until we were able to get a signal to call for help is interesting to me

Telling someone about something I did in Halo is mind-numbing to me (and I love gaming)

The real question one has to ask themselves is this: Does my health and lifestyle matter to me more than a companies' profits? For me, my health and lifestyle matter more than companies' profits.

That one's just cause people are idiots. It makes no sense that something you can completely turn your brain off for is less of a waste of time than something that actually gets your brain moving. Not to mention reflexes being trained

That's just how basic people are supposed to think these days. They LOVE nature but know next to nothing about it, and barely spend any time in it. It's more about liking an idea or aesthetic.

As far as your stance, I knew a guy like that when I was younger, but his main gripe was not having internet access. I don't know if he actually disliked the nature.
