For sure, it's one of the most free press ecosystems in the world, but there are a few things the State Department just does not let you do, and criticizing Israel is one of them. It's far too important to have public backing for Israel so they can maintain a strong foothold in the Middle East. But yeah, if you describe their actions without saying it's Israel most Westerners would guess you were talking about North Korea or China or some shit.
