In the original tale, the prince raped Aurora while she was sleeping, and she became pregnant and gave birth while unconscious. This happened twice. In that version she woke up after one of the infants sucked the magic thorn keeping her asleep out of her finger thinking it was a nipple.

I'm genuinely curious if Disney actually created the child-friendly version thing or if they based their works on child-friendly versions that already existed.

Given the era, with the Hays Code and whatnot, it's possible they didn't know of darker versions, or if they did, they understandably didn't want to draw any ire or punishment from big names at the time. Walt and The Mouse weren't so powerful back then, so it's not like they could have gotten away with as much.

The original Little Mermaid is a wild ride and a much better story than the Disney version, which itself is pretty good.

Oh I know that Disney always disney...fies it's movies. I just never knew that specific detail in Sleeping Beauty was in the original Grimm tales.
