They're both really similar. Take the world into their own hands, are crazy, are good at what they wanna do, are good at battle strategy/tactics/etc, have a morality that keeps them going moreso than a surface motivation, etc. They're like the same person but had a few key moments that really shaped who they want to be. They're envious of each other. Superman envies the freedom of the Lex and the Lex envies the morality of Superman.

Just revisiting The Redsun and getting nostalgic.

Luther's morality being that he only kills if it's for his own personal gain?

Luther will do anything to satisfy his goals. He usually won't kill people for laughs like The Joker, but he would have no qualms about kidnapping people and experimenting on them to further his goals. He's a businessman with zero ethics basically.

I read or saw a summation that Lex's primary driving force was jealousy, in that he always wanted to have the same huge effects (for better or worse) that Superman does on the world

Which means no morality.

Lex deal is he wanta power. So all his crime is to that effect.

Superman bugs him because no matter how much power he gains, Superman will always be more powerful.

So he long ago decided to just kill Superman.

Basically. In All-Star Superman he actually gets Superman powers and kind of has a breakdown because he almost instantly realizes how wrong he's been.

That's why end the ending of JLU made sense - Superman couldn't 'beat' Darkseid, but Luthor did in a way
