I'm gonna guess that every company is a goddamn piece of shit at this point. I haven't heard from any controversy from Square-Enix for example, but I'm willing to bet they have some undesirable assholes working there and some awful things going on. It seems to be a given at this point. The only variable is if we'll ever hear about it, and what exactly they've done.

this.. im not saying its right at all, but don't suddenly start caring about these folks specifically because they released the meme game of the month.

That article is goofy as fuck click bait and was probably only written because Elden Ring is a big deal right now.

If only FromSoft employment had an easy mode.

every company in every male dominated industry has the same problem. All the people acting like it was only Blizzard when that story broke were just being willfully ignorant

and yes there have been reports about SE already as well

I wonder if they leave post-its around saying "try finger but hole" and "amazing chest ahead".

By the same token, that company releasing the meme game of the month isn't an excuse to handwave news like this away.

Is it a huge problem industry-wide, or even nation-wide? Sure. That doesn't mean we tell people to stop "suddenly caring" when we learn specific instances. That kind of apathy is BS. Micro-level outrage and calls for action are better than none at all.

That said, I'd be interested to see if there's any verification from more reputable soirces.

It's Japan I don't doubt they have terrible working conditions, Japan in general has a culture that's too focused on work at the expense of the individual. So this isn't just from software but the Japanese working industry as a whole.

As for the sexual harassment here's the excerpt from the article you posted:

I think crunch culture is really the problem.

I don't think the general public, or at least the majority of people who consume games as media realize how much actual work hours goes into making a game. Especially games as polished as what From puts together.

Even if the work culture is different, the devs have real, tangible human limits.

Decade old reviews, and the compnay has just given everyone a raise and bonus due to the success of Elden Ring. Twitter fingers need to give it up. We don't care that you're mad at the 9/10 and 10/10 review scores, we don't care that your SJW Sony/Ubisoft UX designers won't get their bonus for not averaging 90 on Metacritic(funny enough both companies are currently knee deep in sexual assault class action suits along with other discrimination suits).

We like Fromsoftware's games, we like Elden Ring. Get over it.

Even taking this reeeeaching article at face value, this is mild compared to the gaming industry in tterms of the "dark side" or employee complaints.

Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing they did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
