When people still had their insane hate boner against pre-promotes? Because that mindset is pretty dead anymore. Marcus is now considered the best unit in the game and Pent is widely recognized as an outstanding unit. Before Three Houses there was probably a single digit number of Archers who could be considered good units in the whole series. And yeah, Erk ends up roughly with the same stats as Pent, but with much more effort while competing for a Guiding Ring with Canas and Lucius. Canas beats Erk at combat and Lucius gets a better staff rank on promotion so Erk is a tough sell.
