I heard something about that, but don't quote me as I really didn't verify or research anything. I just remember there's some kind of tradition of who pays for what, including the maids of honor and best man. I think the guest pay something too traditionally?

I just wanted to say I find it insane some go into debt over a wedding. That money could be used for much economically smart reasons.

Traditionally, the bride's family pays for the wedding and reception expenses, and the groom's family pays for the outlier things like rehearsal dinners, boutonnieres, wedding license, etc.

If that's how people want to roll, more power to them. My wife and I paid for everything ourselves so we didn't have to worry about input from others. Pretty much the only tradition we followed was me proposing with an engagement ring. We kept the wedding small and didn't even have a wedding party. So much less headache and stress to deal with.
