Souls games usually have very obscure plots. You can beat the game and still not even know what is going on

However, it sounds like he only helped pen the games backstory early on and isnt writing characters or dialogue like many hoped he would. A recent Entertainment Weekly interview with Yasuhiro Kitao, a producer at From Software, explains how game director Hidetaka Miyazaki had Martins blessing to take the story wherever.

George R.R. Martin wrote the original mythos for this game, Kitao said through a translator, via Entertainment Weekly. He created a backstory or a history that takes place many, many years before the events of the game itself, and he wrote this in collaboration with Miyazaki.

Kitao continued: Once that original mythos was complete, George R.R. Martin was kind enough to leave that in our hands, so to speak, and to do with that what we will.

I feel like he probably did almost nothing but they paid to have his name there because it would actually be a good marketing strategy.

I heard he wrote a lot of the individual character stuff. Didn't see a source though.

Maybe he wrote the part where you let that women hug you in a sexual way.

He wrote a few lines and was gonna write a few more but he decided to watch football instead.

Fromsoft games always have super deep awesome lore but you have to read the item descriptions to get it. Or watch YouTube vids.

From what I heard, George R. R. Martin just made up the main characters and their roles, and From Software made up a whole world and story for them.

Its perfect that they got grrm to write elden rings story cause their stories are always incomplete meant for fans to fill in the gaps lol

This allowed us to have many free and creative conversations regarding the game, in which Mr. Martin later used as a base to write the overarching mythos for the game world itself.
This mythos proved to be full of interesting characters and drama along with a plethora of mystical and mysterious elements as well. It was a wonderful source of stimulus for me and the development staff.

A lot of characters ion Elden do feel a bit different than the usual souls fare so i wouldnt be surprised at all if he came up with them, particularly most of the round table/renni group. Way less characters in this do the "sitting around enigmatically laughing" thing and feel a bit more like actual characters

He's the one that left all the messages about pickles.

These games have very cryptic, minimalist stories. You also get more lore out of item descriptions than almost any dialog. If you beeline the main bosses and dungeons it is entirely possible to see the credits sequence and not know a single thing about the story.

Some protips:

1: Read the description of every item. It's by going into Inventory, pressing "X" or "Square", and it expands out a side screen with lore fluff. Do it for literally everything, the story is in there.

2: A good rule of thumb is to exhaust all NPC dialog when you see them. Keep talking to them over and over until their lines repeat, then you're good. That'll often lead to an extra reward from them, or syncing up their next quest properly. When you see them again or kill an area boss, do it all over again. Most will have new dialog prompts.

3: Don't pledge to literally everyone in any of these games. By roughly midgame, you should have a vague idea on what "ending" you're gonna get. Each of these games has multiple, and they're all tied to NPC's.

4: When done, watch a few lore videos on youtube to fill in the blanks.

GRRM gave them an outline (probably the 'feudal' succession law stuff the game talks about later on with some certain fiesty redheads) years ago. But I highly doubt he wrote any screenplay or voice acting script material whatsoever.

People really, really overestimated how much nudity is in the show. Aside from Roz's scenes, all of the nudity makes sense.

Death Stranding is like this too, really dense lore and backstory, freeing the main narrative up to be the story of how you get from point A to point B.

in Soulsborne games, Elden Ring included, if some legendary character is mentioned, they're most likely going to appear in the game, too.
