Shouldn't we just call her the main character? We don't ever call the dude the male main character... or do we?

Because sometimes "the" main character is a male but there's a female character with a large amount of influence in the story but not as much as the male one.

So like Kid from CC would be considered the FMC right? So then Locke and Edgar are the MMC in FF6 because Terra is the MC?

Usually the male main character is the default and is who is used in much of the marketing, so if you say "main character", most people will think of the male.

6 doesnt have a main character. Celes becomes the main character for the second half of the game.

I just say male lead and female lead

I have used FeMC when referring to Persona 3 but that's because the female lead was introduced in a port/remaster, making the male character the 'original' PC

I like how Vaan is the main character of FF12 despite being second only to Penelo in terms of characters who do jackshit

No she does not. The game revolves entirely around Terra. Just because she leaves the party for a little bit doesn't change anything.

Actually it does. She is also more involved throughout the story. Celes had betrayal subplot, the opera scene and the suicide scene. Terra was just there for the second half of the game tbh.

That's because those are genres with multiple Main Characters, and the it's usually only used when the FMC is the only female main character, and there's multiple male main characters, one of which becomes the ML - the female lead (FL) and the male lead (ML) inevitably end up falling in love, no matter the genre. Saying them before the end, is spoilers though.
