  • What's the best way to use dumbells?
  • Is it okay to tuck my toes under something to help with sit ups or will that lessen the work done?
  • Which rice is the best for you to eat?
  • What's good to put into a smoothie/shake? Not the fruit/veggies, I mean just use water? Milk? Some sort of natural juice?
  • I have an exercise bike. Is it better to peddle faster or harder? Harder meaning it requires more strength to peddle
  • I have an ab machine [tinyurl.com/525ex45m], is it better to do this quicker or kind of hold it at the top for a few seconds before going back down? 1-2-3-...20, or. 1.......2.......3...... ...20

Take the stairs.

I take the stairs every time, and walk them at work a lot. I also don't drive, and walk everywhere I go

Are you trying to bulk up? Rice is pure carbs. You should switch it out for beans or something with a lot of protein. When cutting I used to eat chicken breast, black beans, and salsa. Low calorie and high protein. Can also fart a lot to impress friends and family.

For the ab machine, do hold it at the top. For getting some muscle tone you'd want to do like a quick one second burst to the top, hold for two seconds then slowly drop down for three seconds.

And with the exercise bike, do both, go hard for a minute, then go fast for a minute, swap them up.

1 use proper form. Don't swing them. Flys, rows, curls, tricep extensions, shrugs

2 absolutely.

3 brown rice

4 skim milk or whey protein powder If you really get into it.

5 as high a resistance that you can maintain for an hour.

6 ab machines suck compared to a real core workout. Situps, V-sit, Frog kicks, Flutter kicks, plank, side plank, Rocky sit ups. Etc.

7 get yourself a perfect pushup for chest. It's the most effective thing I've used.

8 train to time, not number of reps. Start at 30seconds per exercise and work your way up incrementally. If you can't do anymore reps in the normal position, modify so you can go untill time is up. For example, pushups can be modified by going to your knees and do "girl" pushups, and even further, pelvis on the ground and do "cobras"
Just don't stop till the time is up.

9 after a few months of this conditioning, then you can add free weights to the mix. Those you need to count reps, and forget about the timer.

* What's the best way to use dumbells?
You want a good "burn" after you are done with your sets in the muscles you are targeting. If you have never lifted start light. Look at technique. Biggest thing is to do things in a way that it doesn't hurt you.
Good lifts are bench press, lunges, shoulder press, bicep curl, bent over row, tricep kickbacks, dumbbell fly, tricep extensions, weighted sit ups.

* Is it okay to tuck my toes under something to help with sit ups or will that lessen the work done?

Yes
* Which rice is the best for you to eat?
Brown rice, but the difference isn't that huge. Rice in general is pretty good for you. Though white rice has higher GI. Do a lot of sweet potatoes, too. They are another great super food that is a bit of a filler and cheap.

* What's good to put into a smoothie/shake? Not the fruit/veggies, I mean just use water? Milk? Some sort of natural juice?

Water. Minimize drinking calories. If you won't get your daily fruit / veggies by eating, blending is great. I do like 3 oz spinach, 1 banana, 1/4 cup frozen mixed fruits and berries, 1 cup of water, blend it. That's about 150 calories, super nutritious, filling. Milk and juice are pretty high calories. If you drink tea without adding sugar / milk, do that.

* I have an exercise bike. Is it better to peddle faster or harder? Harder meaning it requires more strength to peddle
Whichever you find more difficult i'd say? Switch it up.

* I have an ab machine [tinyurl.com/525ex45m], is it better to do this quicker or kind of hold it at the top for a few seconds before going back down? 1-2-3-...20, or. 1.......2.......3...... ...20

I've always found with abs its best to go slow.

I like to chop a large broccoli head in half and use that as my turkey burger buns.

It has a great texture and the juices soak into the florets.

The best advice I can give is pick a workout routine and diet plan that you can be consistent with. That's the most important thing, consistency. Working out and eating right isn't something you want to turn on or off depending on whether you feel like it but a passive part of your life that you don't really think about. If somebody recommends a workout routine and it's an hour long, and you know that you can only maintain that for a week or two before your willpower gives out, consider the 30-minute routine instead. Similarly, don't try to radically alter your diet if it's going to cause you to eat stuff you hate. Find little changes you can make that you know you can stick with.
