I seem to remember hearing some mixed reactions to it (combat-related?), but eh well. All I know is the dude is a doctor (?) or something.

Let's mix potions and save lives.

Yeah I played it over the summer after it was free on PS Plus and I found it pretty average, not terrible but not particularly fun either.

Loved it. I'm bias though, I'm obsessed with vampires and much of the games mechanics (building relationships using your godlike speech skills, killing people that trust you for their blood, incredible physical abilities) are everything I wanted in a vampire game. The only thing that would have made it better was create a character instead.

even though it had some flaws (like levels sometimes feeling like mazes), I still enjoyed it.

and while the combat starts out feeling pretty basic, I thought it got to be a lot more fun after you upgraded and unlocked moves.

hopefully there will be a sequel/prequel that improves on the original.

Glad combat gets better, 'cause just facing 3-4 dudes with your wimpy abilities and a geriatric dodge move ain't gonna cut it. Dunno about murdering my trusted allies -- even vamps gotta have some pride -- but if there's an annoying douchebag I can ingratiate myself with and then murder, that may be in the cards.

Hopefully I'll be done by the time the Jester Festival comes around, 'cause I haven't done it before.

Dammit, I accidentally attacked some dude at the hospital named Sean Hampton since he was rooting around outside like a rabid vampire or something. Reset the game, so hopefully they'll give me a mulligan. I'm a good doctor.

As for combat so far, I've mostly been doing 2-3 slashes, then teleporting away to let my stamina recover. Every so often I give them the clawwwwww, just to have some fun. Drinking blood while there's multiple gunmen around is kinda stupid, though, so gotta avoid that.

Oopsy doodle, Tippets (the name is MISTER Tipp's!!) performed some type of quack surgery and the patient OD'd on his anesthesia. Gonna need to have a talk with this dude. Also, had to look up how to equip weapons, since you can only do it from a character menu instead of any normal method...odd. At least now I can use sidearms and this gigantic scythe I randomly found.

It seems the mysterious lady vampire is really Lady Ashbury (an alias?) and her meetings at the hospital coincide with patients dying of catastrophic blood loss. Even I haven't been so indelicate as to feed on my patients! She also has a mesmerism defense of 20, which is about four times higher than Swansea's, so I'm guessing I'm not supposed to try any tricks on her, haha.

Okay, not to find the blackmailer. I bet it's a doctor. Hopefully it's that douchebaggy one who doesn't like me.

Hmm, the kawaii nurse might be a double-crosser? She was at the docks giving a free pass to get a checkup to some thug for some reason. He got chomped on by a sewer monster, though. Now I need to go to Whitechapel, which might be a smidge hard since all the enemies are way higher level than me. Guess I should be sucking patients' blood for free...uh...blood experience, but I want to respect my oath!

I hate the invisibility/shadow power to slip by...hopefully. Gonna try it out and see how good it is.

Each person having secrets and you using your vampire persuasion to force people to tell you stuff is interesting, although the payoff seems to be murdering the NPCs, so it's not that great for a no-kill situation. Probably going to do that, although I almost killed that gangbanger who lost his knife. Doesn't seem worth it to murder someone only for 1000 XP, though. I'll see how far I can get as a good boy and switch to murder mode only if necessary. Some bosses have been a little dicey because of my levels, but I think enemies do respawn endlessly (zone in, zone out), so maybe it's not a big deal.

Spent last night strutting around Whitechapel and seeing if I could find out more about Dorothy Crane and her clandestine clinic operation. Also killed some mini-boss named Roger "The Wall" Waters, which gave me a laugh. Switched from a hacksaw to a two-handed cudgel and that's been working out okay; gotta have some parrying available to really survive some battles.

Ahh, so that's it. Right now I'm trying to save a patient at Dorothy's weird clinic, but he died on my first attempt. Maybe I'll try save-scumming my way through to save him. I think I did pretty good until I called for a thoracic massage and Dorothy gave me the "WTF?" look.

Okay, I got through the patient (he died again...oh well) and stopped Dorothy's blackmail scheme, although I did spare her, since she's doing good work in the area and I don't feel like schlepping fatigue potions all the way out here if the district goes to hell. I erased her memory or something and got an extra mesmerism level for it, but I've got a long way to go.

Games where you can play as vampires in society are kinda nice.

Less nice is the fact that I "saved" Dorothy from any legal trouble, then finished the chapter (slept only once all day and had 3000+ XP saved), only to find her "missing" the next day. Of course, when I go over to Whitechapel, she's a LV24 Skal or something on the upper floor. Not sure if I should attack her, because she's a pillar and it'll collapse this entire district.

EDIT: I tried attacking her and she two-shotted me because I got caught on scenery in close quarters...DAMMIT. Probably could've taken her in a fair fight, though I blindsided her and got in 5 free hits, so maybe I shouldn't be too upset about the "fair" part.

EDIT2: Tried again and hit her while she was defending, which poisoned (?) me and took off all my health. That sucks. Maybe I'll just kill the minions and leave her around for a little while... Maybe there's a way I can make her my thrall or something, since Ashbury mentioned that in the past (?).

Welp, apparently after I mindwiped (?) Dorothy of all those nasty communist thoughts, she turned into an empty husk of herself, got sick, and become a skal. I finally put her out of her misery, although I dunno how the neighborhood will do. That one Romanian guy who always hung around her blames me, though he doesn't know I'm directly responsible for dropping the hammer. I cured some peeps in that area, so maybe it'll be okay.

Went to sister's funeral, saw mom (from afar), and met some hulking mass of a vampire who threatened me about society, etc. Apparently the dude who made me a vampire is some shadowy figure who wants to cure the pandemic or something. I wasn't paying much attention 'cause it's so late at night.

Sean Hampton, the pillar of the docks area, suddenly became a monster (???) and ripped poor Harriet Jones to shreds before fleeing. I wonder what would've happened if I'd murdered her earlier? Maybe it was impossible. Either way, yet another pillar who's on the precipice. Might have to say "I'll take pleasure in guttin' you...BOY" like Nic Cage in the future.

Okay, Sean Hampton is still cogent and is giving a Bible spiel about how he's doing god's work, etc. But he knows I can use vamp sight to see through this movable bookcase and find a ton of bloodstains, right? It's hard to say "I'm not a murderer!" when I can smell lovely blood about three feet away. Hell, the bookcase doesn't even cover the door entrance properly!

The thing about Dorothy becoming a skal is that it came out of nowhere. I chose a nonlethal option that was also a "don't go to cops" option, but it wound up being "forget about your clandestine activities...and all other brain function" apparently. If they'd mentioned that because my dude is a newborn vamp, something could go wrong, that'd be fine...but I just wanted to save the nice nurse. =(

On the bright side, I can make all the civilian potions now, so I've been doing that a bit. Overnight, seven dudes in Pembroke got fatigue, so I had my bottles at the ready. Because of how annoying it is to go to all districts (without fast travel?), I may just end up keeping everyone in Pembroke alive and possibly ignoring some other ones, if they're too out of the way. Harriet Jones is a mulligan, haha.

These chaplains are annoying as hell. Makes me want to raise my EAGLE CLAW attack up to the maximum so it does 900 damage or something. I do prefer just bludgeoning everyone to death, though, so proceeding might be tough in the future.

Started fighting Fergal in the sewers and was kicking his ass until I ran out of stamina. I think a problem I have is the teleportation move doesn't go through enemies, so if you try going through to dodge their combos, you just end up right near 'em and get your gob smacked. I'm too used to blinking in ESO, I guess. If this is the boss that's hard because of being underlevelled, though, I think I can eventually win.

Welp, went through the sewers, found Old Bridget's base, and made Skal Sean drink my blood to "heal" him. I'm guessing the game isn't going to make that option good, though, and he'll probably kill himself or something now that he's mortal again. Also, Reid was pretty brutal in convincing him:

Sean: God works in mysterious ways.
Jonathan: I have a hard time believing God wanted you to be molested by a priest.

Guess we'll have to see how the district recovers or falters.

I knew it! Mary was alive and blames me. Of course, the only thing she can bring up about my past choices is killing Nurse Crane -- I've been an angel other than that. I'm about five levels lower than her, so this boss fight is pretty annoying. She counters you after almost every hit, summons explosive blood pustules, and can teleport farther than I can. Kinda annoying, since the constant dodging slows everything down to a crawl.

I'm sort of sad that Vampyr is so obscure and probably won't ever get a sequel or anything.

The game had a lot of flaws, but it also had some cool ideas and a great concept. I feel like it has the makings of a top tier game with a bit more polish and some adjustments in a hypothetical sequel.

Hope you enjoy it either way. I had a lot of fun with it in spite of its problems.

Welp, I beat Mary on the 4th or 5th attempt. I was trying to rush it like I do with scrublord enemies, but you gotta go carefully to avoid the stupid powers she has. I mean, seriously, if I created her, why does she have 50 times greater prowess in all categories? Makes my dude feel like a wuss. Of course, I still haven't eaten any civilians, so maybe that can explain away some of the gap between us.

I did save my mother, though, so I'm guessing she'll be in the West End area -- the last place I have to explore, presumably. Ashbury wants me to meet with the Ascalons, so I'm guessing we'll have some fun. Ashbury also said she had an adopted daughter, so I'm curious if we're going to see a pointless kidnapping plot at some point.

Also, the game timeskipped on me and wouldn't give me an opportunity to level up or anything? Pretty stupid. The other districts are still pretty good, with even Dorothy's area up to 80% success rate, so maybe I can just sleep again without troubling anything.

I tried this game out because of the topic.

I got my ass kicked by the Sewer Beast because I'm like level 8, so I just went full offense and skipped all the fancy vampire tricks in exchange for beating it with a BoNeSaW.

Immediately upgraded the BoNeSaW to steal blood points after that.

This fortune-teller dude wants 150 shillings for a reading, lol. I could buy...two rivets for that price!! I'm guessing it gives hints at stuff, but I don't need any. As for Sean, he's holding down the docks pretty well and it's been at sanitized rating for days. I'm guessing that means there won't be any further infections/sickness, 'cause Pembroke's been similar.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Sometimes it randomly crashes; sometimes it freezes during certain actions, like battling. It's been okay since I started going to the West End, though, so maybe it's just random or chapter-related.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

As soon as I took my time with everything, it was much easier. In fact, a lot of battles have been like that. I did die to some random LV30 vamp using blood barrier and some kind of teleporting thrust move, but for some other enemies, like a random Lv30 Fergal-like hulk, I didn't have any trouble. Since I'm always at a low level, I really should've invested in the barrier instead of the claw, which I rarely use. (Dunno why I'm speaking in past tense, though...I have 6000 XP saved up for bedtime.)

Yeahhhhhh, I upgraded my mace to LV5 (orange) with all the damage upgrades. It does 500+ damage. I'm LV22 now and just tore through this LV30 rogue ekon with it. Also switched out coagulation (stun target) for the blood barrier, so we'll see how that goes. I kinda want to use the blood spear instead of the claw, too, since I've had some difficulty with a bunch of moves that only do regular damage. Gonna try switching it up.
