People either don't notice the entrance to the tutorial or think it is a trap and avoid it

If you haven't played, you wake up in a cave. There is a huge door up ahead. To your side is a pit with a ghost that says to jump down for "knowledge "

i do appreciate that it's optional for my additional playthroughs.

To be fair, it does come off as the most obvious bait/troll as you can get in a souls game. Seen a few new people go "Yeah right, just going to kill me" and walk away.

Seems stupid to completely ignore a possible path when, being at the immediate start of the game and checkpoint, you have zero progression and investment in staying alive.

I walked right by it

I know a few people who missed some basic tutorial / mechanics intro things in the game

it's a little more complicated than this I think? otherwise you could say the same thing about anyone who does do the tutorial: that they ignored the non-tutorial path

I remember jumping down a hole in PS3 demon's souls 1-1 because "oh hey it looks like there's stuff down there" but then you just die. They didn't even have the decency to let you hit the ground. An invisible force kills you as soon as you cross the vertical threshold.

I have a bad memory, did something happen leading up to the cave or is that where you start?

Cause, if that's where you start, who cares if you die?

Honestly tho, making the player feel like an idiot straight off the jump would be funny. Cause givin there's not really anything to lose, Id of laughed it off immediately.

There is a short section before it where you just walk through the area until you meet a boss that kills you. Then you wake up in the cave

I didnt know there was a tutorial till i went back there to do the dungeon accessible by the stonekeys.

I need to stop smoking so much when I play lol. I don't remember any of that. No wonder why I can never piece together the story lol
