Just keep getting blown away every time I reach a new landscape.

best thing about it is that I dont have to worry about securing outposts. Running errands for an NPC. I dont have stupid fucking quest markers. I can literally just go whatever direction I want and get completely lost

edit: I'm enjoying the game, but I'm not currently feeling like it's my "GOAT", so I don't want it to feel like I'm defending the game; I was just curious because I like to see what games people accept as having such titles if they don't feel another deserves it.

The honeymoon phase will pass around the 30 hour mark and you'll see it's mostly copy/paste padding

Didn't you hear? The devs of a few inferior games say this is bad UX design. You're morally wrong to enjoy such a game. Their fetch quest simulators deserve a 90 on metacritic so they can ear their bonuses and make a living wage. And this isn't Ubisoft/Sony's fault, it's Fromsoftware and their fans' fault.

There can't be a singular GoaT game. The best you can hope for is GoaT in genre, but even that's messy to try and quantify.

Regardless, I've encountered far too many issues with ER in my (checks time played) 20 hours and 1 minute (lol) for it to even pass cursory scrutiny as any kind of contender. I'm still enjoying it, but it's not even top 10 for me, even ignoring that we're still honeymooning it.

Dark Souls 3 > Sekiro > Bloodborne > Elden Ring > Dark Souls 1 > Demons Souls > Dark Souls 2

I understand your argument, but all I'm asking is which games do you feel would come close to fitting the "GOAT" status, whether we're talking within their respective genres, or in general?

Actually I am having the same kind of fun in Elden ring, as I did in that.

Run around like an idiot trying to find interesting spots and better ways to kill people. I didnt get that feeling from RDR2, it was too serious, too much tone. RDR2 is still a good game, and I have to give up my completionist tendencies in Elden Ring if I just want to fuck off and have fun... but at least it scratches that itch.

No, BotW didnt do it for me... gear whore that I am.

sorry if I came off as pushy, but whenever someone makes a claim like the TC and someone posts something about how they disagree, I usually ask something similar to the second person since I already know how the first person feels.

anyway, I'm about 8-10 hours in, and as much as I'm liking it, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still my favorite open-world.
