Not for $17/hour. I'd have to be desperate to accept that salary at this point in my career.

I was, however, close to going to work for Amazon back in 2018. My job kept me on as a contractor for 2 years. I got a call from a recruiter at Amazon for a full time network engineering position with them. Within about 30 minutes of that phone call, the company I was working for had me start the process of becoming full time, so I decided to turn Amazon down.

Ive spoken to a number of Amazon devs over the years and theyve all said the same. They go for the equity money and then leave.

As a warehouse worker? Absolutely not. Warehouse work is not for me. Especially the likes of Amazon. Wouldn't be a delivery driver either. Even for something like an IT position, that salary is way lower than where I currently am at.

I already work for them as a delivery driver part time. The job is awful. Especially with how much Amazon rushes you.

I wouldn't work in a warehouse for $17/hr unless I were desperate.

My field is environmental compliance so I'd definitely take a compliance position if offered and they probably pay better than my current job.

I have already. The warehouse I worked at was pretty chill and the area manager treated us like human beings instead of robots. Only worked there for two months but didn't have a bad experience.

Not for $17 and hour, I wouldn't.

It would be too much of a pay cut from what I'm currently making.

But lets assume they'd match or exceed my current pay.

It would then depend on what the job was. Amazon is more than just "Own the company and make billions" or "Stuff boxes in a warehouse". There's, like, a thousand jobs inbetween.

Which is funny because anyone who fails the test cant take it again for another 6 months (I know from devs I spoke to) but Amazon recruiters are known spammers and they also have a number of agencies they work with that dont have that visibility. If you have Java anywhere on your profile, expect them to message you lol.

They also spam me for recruiting jobs. I have 0 interest. Its agency style recruiting where everyone competes to make a hire because if you dont hit your quarterly offer accepted target, Amazon fires you. Their recruiting org is a revolving door.

Not for that amount unless I didn't have other options. I like and thrive in warehouse work though and from all of the horror stories it doesn't sound much different from other jobs I had no trouble with.

I was offered a position as a Category Manager for auto parts back in 2017 or 2018. I turned it down after talking with previous co-workers who ended up working there. I know about 15 people that have worked there, 2 have lasted longer than 3 years. And one of them was because he started there in 1997 (and didn't get any stock options).

Agency recruiting is shit. Its much less pressure if you work for a company directly thats smaller in size. I did agency for a year to get the experience but then I left and have been a corporate recruiter since with medium sized companies. No hard metrics and more about building good relationships with hiring teams. And I make consistent salary and not commission.

I don't even like to use Amazon because of their unethical practices. I would hate to work for them. I make $17 an hour working from home and writing for my book on the side. I don't need to switch over to a factory.

If I needed a job with $17/hrs, absolutely. Treat me however you want, I still get to leave and go home at the end of the day.

Gotta do what you gotta do to survive. That's barely less than what I make as a teacher anyway (except I don't get paid June/July).
