I think it would be cool if there was a storyline about the middle evolution. Like Charmeleon, Poliwhirl, etc. A story where maybe the Pokemon reached the middle evolution and didn't want to evolve to the final evolution.

Or maybe even a "middle child" type storyline with a middle evolution.

Or really just anything that highlights characteristics of a middle evolution- where they go in detail about how they are transitioning into who they become. More than just a couple of lines dropped, an actual story.

Anything like that in any of the games or anime?

This sounds awful.

I think Grovyle was one of the star characters in one of the spinoff games. Though I have no idea if him being a middle stage evolution was a significant piece of the story.

Ash used Pidgeotto for a long ass time in the anime.

I'm talking about there being a storyline specifically about the fact that it is a middle evolution Pokemon, where the story has to do with it being middle evolution. And not just some passing remark about it

I know you mentioned Pikachu but I feel like picking the flagship Pokemon who was introduced as the first line it it's evolution, and later technically became a middle evolution when they introduced "baby" pokemon, is not really the same as what I'm looking for here

And even if so- did they ever specifically make the story about how Pikachu is a middle evolution?

The Gen 8 starters all have a teenage phase in their middle evolution. Raboot becomes aloof and distant, Drizzile becomes super depressed, and Thwackey is rebellious.

They should make an entire spin off series of the anime that spends the entire time just focusing on metapod using harden and everyone making dick jokes and metapod fibds it so funny that it refuses to evolve.

You mean the sixth episode of the original series?

Yeah, the metapod would indeed make a silly sounding chuckle. Plus, it woukd shake slightly to visually indicate laughter as well, and its eyes would go ^^

There would also be sight gags where metapod is positioned to look like a trainer's penis, sometimes as an aside joke to the audience but sometimes intentionally set up by metapod itself to troll other characters.

I don't see that happening, due to middle evos being less marketable in general.

Early evolutions tend to be cute, which caters to kids. Late game evolutions tend to be cool, which caters to the older folks. Middle evos... tend to just be 'eh' for the most part.

There's a reason we didn't see Ash use Charmeleon for very long.
