Afghanistan is run by the literal Taliban. Prior to US involvement, it was run by the literal Taliban. The people who behead people and force women out of schools and into child marriages. It isn't racism to call them uncivilized. They're uncivilized.

Yeah, if they wanted to be nuanced about it, developed or affuent would be better terms but just going straight to civilized is a mask off.

Europe is one of the most war torn locations in history. When European traders started setting up permanent outposts in East Asia the locals were baffled that they built defensive walls around their buildings.

Meanwhile there has been conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan on and off for decades and it's well assumed that conflict will continue into the future.

In the context of the past... 30-40 years, yes, it is 'shocking' to see this happen to a modern place, since most of the fighting in the world happened in the Middle East(from the MSM perspective)

But it should be shocking to see fighting anywhere, regardless of how modern it is or isn't perceived to be.

Granted that wasn't a full scale invasion and war, but the situation in Ireland back then is certainly comparable to "Iraq or Afghanistan".

The Yugoslav Wars are probably a far better example, not that the troubles should be dismissed entirely as was plenty of violence in Ireland and the UK during them.

The US and UK are right now providing bombs that the Saudis use to blow up water tanks in Yemen. Yemen currently has the largest outbreak of cholera in history. It's going on right now, and there's nothing particularly more uncivilized about regular people getting bombed by US allies. You don't have to look for conflict in Europe mate

Yemen isn't in Europe mate. The point was to show their selective bias when such violence has been on their doorstep in living memory already.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. My post was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction. But in the end these people do remember both the Troubles and Yugoslavia, they just aren't very concerned with being consistent.
